Primary objective

Deliver high quality, culturally appropriate and effective Public Health Dietetic services within NT Health.

Context statement

The Public Health Nutritionist works within Primary and Public Health Care (PPHC) Barkly Outreach Services and provides

specialist program outreach care to clients living in remote communities and specialist support, advice and education to PPHC staff

with a specific focus on improving outcomes in public health nutrition. Experience driving a manual vehicle with eligibility to obtain

an NT manual driver’s licence and a willingness and ability to travel by road or light aircraft to remote communities for negotiated

periods is required to fulfil the inherent responsibilities of this role.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provide timely, clinically and culturally appropriate Public Health Dietetic services under minimal supervision within a

multidisciplinary framework.

2. Provide feedback to senior staff and management on program and clinical issues.

3. Provide clinical/professional supervision and/or support to students and relevant staff.

4. Prioritise and manage a caseload within a dynamic and evolving work environment to ensure timelines and health outcomes

are met.

5. Co-ordinate and/or contribute to continuous quality improvement and service development activities at a local or regional level

to ensure delivery of contemporary public health dietetic services.

6. Contribute to the achievement of work unit goals and key performance indicators.

7. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken

in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

8. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, and eligibility for Accredited Practicing Dietitian status with Dietitians Australia.

2. Post graduate experience in providing contemporary high level clinical and/or public health dietetics services to clients and

families/carers.

3. Demonstrated awareness and understanding of Aboriginal culture and proven experience in working effectively with clients

and families/carers of diverse cultural and social backgrounds.

4. Well-developed communication, interpersonal skills, negotiation and conflict management skills, with experience working in a

team environment to achieve positive health outcomes.

5. Demonstrated ability to provide clinical supervision of students and/or staff and a commitment to professional development.

6. Proven ability to implement and complete continuous quality improvement and service development activities.

7. Proven ability to efficiently and effectively manage a high volume workload.

Desirable

1. Post-graduate qualifications or experience in Public health or speciality practice area.

2. Previous experience working in a remote or regional setting.
