We are looking to add a highly detail-oriented Property Accountant to join our property accounting team on a one-year contract. Reporting to the Controller, Properties, this role be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financials for the assigned accounts within their portfolio (mainly residential with some commercial).

The ideal candidate will be able to multi-task and is a resourceful problem solver with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a property accounting environment. We are looking for someone who is eager to assist others with a high level of drive to be proactive in their responsibilities and ability to meet strict deadlines. This position is best suited for someone with general knowledge of property accounting and is looking to grow their experience.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting* Preparing monthly and annual financial statements and working papers in accordance with client requirements and needs, and delivery to the client before the deadline; * Regularly communicating with the Property Managers and Leasing Team to ensure complete understanding of the financial reporting needs of the client in assigned portfolio; * Assisting with preparing the annual budget and monitoring it for monthly variances; * Identifying problems and discussing possible solutions; and * Demonstrating strong working knowledge of residential \& commercial accounting processes and transactions to be able to communicate information, discuss situations, and solve problems with the Property Managers or Controller.

Accounting Operations* Providing quality control on Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, reconciling and adjusting journal entries for accuracy; * Demonstrating reliable cash management skills: monitoring capital, leasing and commission cashflow and identifying foreseeable issues or concerns; * Using sales reports and records to generate and report on retail associated revenues; * Assisting the Controller or Senior Accountant with any ad-hoc reporting or projects as requested; and * Preparing year end recovery by comparing actuals to budgeted amounts and settling differences.

What You Bring

  • Minimum 3-4 years’ experience preparing and justifying accurate, organized, and logical financial statements in a property accounting environment;
  • Completion of a College diploma or certificate in Accounting;
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly with Excel;
  • Understanding and experience with Yardi 7;
  • Diligently dealing with methods of organization and detail in performing their duties;
  • Efficient and effective time management, demonstrating ability to meet deadlines while producing quality and accurate work; and
  • Developing positive and professional relationships with a variety of people while practicing excellent verbal and written communication skills.
