Your Role

Gensler’s Critical Facilities team is looking for a Project Architect to join our team. We are looking for a candidate with experience in design and delivery of high-tech, new construction architecture projects—whether for national labs, data centers, or other complex designs. You will be a key team member to help expand our presence in Australia and the region, working with our global and regional leaders to lead internal project teams and grow client relationships. The ideal candidate will be adept in the design and technical elements of project delivery.

As a Gensler Project Architect, you will collaborate with a team of architects and designers to develop design solutions as well as coordinate the design through the construction administration phase of a project. You will be successful in translating sketches and documents into realized 3D models and working drawings and you can research technical issues when they arise. You display innovative thinking balanced with an ability to present real-world technical solutions to new design challenges. What You Will Do

  • An integral part of the design team that leads towards a cohesive and rational design solution which conforms to the project brief and is technically, legally and financially responsible.
  • Manage communication and lead coordination between project team, client, vendors, contractors, and consultants
  • Resolve complex technical and design issues with team to produce innovative, technical, constructible solutions
  • Direct production of drawings, specifications and construction administration tasks
  • Responsible for delivery of documents with design intent and top-notch technical quality
  • Process submittals/substitution requests during construction and address RFIs
  • Interface with building and permitting officials during the permitting and construction phases of the project
  • Based on a very good understanding of local and national codes, be able to guide the team to design in alignment with the requirements.
  • Mentoring and coaching junior team members
  • Actively participate and contribute to the financial performance of project
  • Review and contribute to proposals and contracts with the Design Manager
  • Establish and maintain ongoing, productive client relationships through successful project delivery
  • Participation in business development effort
  • Contribute to office activities, initiatives, and learning programs.

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of related project experience, especially in data centers or other critical facilities projects.
  • Effective communicator, collaborative, and team conscious.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations with tact, grace, and emotional intelligence.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong proficiency with Revit experience desired, BIM360
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) Microsoft Office experience desired. Sketchup, Rhino, Enscape, VRay are also beneficial.
  • Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and parametric design software, including Grasshopper, a plus
  • Knowledge of materials, construction techniques, and building codes specific to core and shell architecture is required.
  • Extensive experience in construction document preparation, including detailing and field observation.
  • Essential knowledge of applicable engineering disciplines.
