The Opportunity

Gallagher Security is entering an exciting chapter of growth as we continue to scale our world-leading software, product development, and engineering capability. As a global technology company headquartered in Hamilton, New Zealand, we design and build cyber-secure solutions that protect some of the world’s most sensitive environments.

We are looking for three Principal Engineers with strong full-stack development experience to help shape the future of our customer-facing products and digital platforms. One of these roles will require particularly strong front-end web development experience, while all three will provide technical direction across modern software delivery.

Across these roles, you will provide technical direction across full-stack development, influencing architecture, modern web practices, performance, scalability, and product quality. You will work closely with Product, UX/UI Design, Architecture, Platform, DevOps, Security, and engineering teams to deliver robust, intuitive software used by customers around the world.

You will bring hands-on credibility, a passion for exceptional user experiences, and the ability to lift engineering standards through influence, mentoring, and sound technical judgement.

In this role you will:

• Provide technical leadership across full-stack engineering, including front-end, back-end, integration, quality, and scalable delivery practices, influencing architecture, design decisions, engineering practices, and technology strategy for customer-facing products
• Act as a trusted technical advisor, helping teams make sound decisions across usability, accessibility, scalability, security, reliability, performance, risk, and maintainability
• Drive excellence through modern standards, frameworks, patterns, design systems, reusable components, testing approaches, and best practices
• Partner with Product, UX/UI Design, Architecture, Platform, DevOps, Security, and engineering teams to deliver scalable, secure, high-quality software products
• Identify technical opportunities, challenges, and risks early, helping teams navigate complexity and make informed trade-offs
• Mentor and support engineers across all levels, fostering technical growth, knowledge sharing, and a strong engineering culture
• Act as a leader of leaders, growing leadership capability across teams by coaching technical leaders, creating space for others to lead, and building confidence in decision-making
• Influence technology roadmaps and strategic initiatives, ensuring solutions align with both current needs and future aspirations
• Champion contemporary frameworks, cloud-native development, automation, AI-assisted development, observability, and platform engineering practices
• Drive continuous improvement by evaluating emerging technologies, industry trends, and engineering practices that can strengthen Platform Portfolio capabilities

About You

You are a highly experienced software engineering leader who enjoys solving complex product challenges, shaping technical direction, and enabling others to do their best work. You will bring strong full-stack development experience, hands-on credibility, and the ability to collaborate effectively across product, design, architecture, and engineering teams. For one of the three roles, we are also looking for particularly strong front-end web development experience and the ability to guide modern web delivery.

You will have a strong background in a software engineering and product development environment, with proven experience guiding complex, scalable products. Across all three roles, full-stack capability is essential, including front-end, back-end, integration, cloud, quality, and scalable delivery practices. For one role, strength in modern front-end web development, design systems, performance, accessibility, testing, and product-led delivery will be especially important.

You'll be someone who:

• Brings strong full-stack engineering capability, with sound judgement across architecture, front-end, back-end, performance, quality, and maintainability
• Has experience working in a software engineering, product development, or technology-led environment where customer experience, usability, and scalable delivery matter
• Enjoys mentoring and coaching engineers, including lifting capability and leadership across teams
• Can balance technical excellence, delivery, quality, risk, cost, and long-term sustainability
• Is comfortable operating in ambiguity and solving complex organisational and technical challenges
• Builds strong relationships and influences stakeholders across technical and non-technical audiences
• Has a passion for engineering excellence, product innovation, continuous improvement, and modern delivery practices
• Remains curious about emerging technologies, automation, AI, engineering standards, and industry trends
