Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The role of Manager PT Product Development is responsible for the development and qualification of new PT belt products and PT systems for volume production to drive revenue and profitability goals for the APAC region. The candidate will have experience and demonstrated successes in product, process, and materials development and engineering.

1. Product and Technology Development

• Lead the development and qualification of new power transmission belt products and systems from concept through volume production.
• Define product specifications and technical requirements based on customer, application and market needs.
• Drive product, process and materials development activities to achieve performance, quality, cost and timing objectives.
• Ensure new products and systems meet applicable technical, quality, regulatory and manufacturing requirements.
• Establish appropriate testing, validation and qualification plans for new products and applications.
• Identify opportunities to improve product performance, reliability, manufacturability and competitiveness.

2. Product Development Strategy and Roadmap

• Develop and implement an APAC product development roadmap aligned with regional growth and profitability objectives.
• Participate in regional strategic planning and contribute to global product and technology strategies when required.
• Assess market trends, competitive developments and emerging customer requirements to identify new product and technology opportunities.
• Translate business and customer needs into clear technical priorities, development programs and resource plans.
• Maintain an appropriate balance between short-term customer requirements and longer-term technology development.

3. Program and Financial Management

• Lead product development and engineering programs to ensure delivery against agreed scope, cost, quality and timing.
• Develop business cases and financial justifications for product development investments.
• Evaluate program costs, commercial potential, development risks and expected returns.
• Monitor program performance and proactively address technical, resource, financial or scheduling gaps.
• Prioritise development programs and resources based on strategic value, customer impact and financial return.
• Provide regular updates to regional and global stakeholders on program status, risks, decisions and expected outcomes.

4. Customer and Application Focus

• Develop a strong understanding of existing customer applications and anticipate the requirements of new and emerging customers.
• Partner with Commercial, Application Engineering and customers to identify unmet needs and translate them into product solutions.
• Provide technical leadership and support during customer reviews, product trials, qualification activities and new product introductions.
• Build strong relationships with key customers and relevant internal stakeholders across the APAC region.

5. Cross-Functional and Regional Leadership

• Work closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Commercial and Finance teams to successfully industrialise and launch new products.
• Utilise and coordinate existing engineering and development resources across the APAC region.
• Review program requirements and deploy resources effectively across countries and development locations.
• Lead cross-functional technical teams and promote clear accountability, collaboration and timely decision-making. Keys to Success

Supervisory Responsibilities

• The role will begin as an Individual Contributor position.
• Strong leadership and influencing skills are required, as the individual will lead cross-functional initiatives and influence stakeholders without direct reporting relationships. Requirements and Preferred Skills

• Education and Experience: Bachelors in applicable engineer field, such as mechanical, electrical, chemical, or materials.
• Greater than 5 years of progressive experience and leadership.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical focused programs.
• Detail oriented with the ability to clearly communicate technical details and program status through meeting participation and update presentations.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize actions based on needs and opportunities.
• Drive results for rapid development and implementation.
• Ability to become a leader in new fields to Gates to be able to grow the customer base.
• Proficiency in the Microsoft applications. Experience in statistical analysis programs and design and layout tools.
• Knowledge and experience in internal and external qualification requirements.
• Ability to determine testing and simulation needs and to define the means to close any gaps between current capabilities and future requirements.
• Skills to define and develop new supplier networks to support new product implementation and ramps.
• Ability to manage budgets and provide initial cost accounting for new product introductions where the products do not already exist.
