Position Overview

A SE Compounding pharmacy is seeking an ambitious, dependable, and detail-oriented Registered Pharmacy Technician to join our patient-focused pharmacy team.

Both full-time and part-time applicants will be considered. This is a contract position with the possibility of continued employment based on performance, availability, and operational requirements.

The successful candidate will assist with prescription processing, technical verification, compliance packaging, inventory management, medication recalls, pharmacy organization, and general dispensary operations.

Key ResponsibilitiesPrescription Processing and Technical Services

  • Receive and process new prescriptions and refills submitted through auto-fill, electronic prescribing, email, fax, voicemail, and in person.
  • Review prescriptions for completeness, clarity, authenticity, and applicable legal requirements.
  • Accurately enter and maintain patient and prescription information using Kroll.
  • Process prescription refills and communicate with prescribers regarding refill authorizations when required.
  • Prepare medication-review forms and supporting documentation for pharmacist assessment.
  • Complete prescription data entry, adjudication, billing, counting, measuring, packaging, and labelling.
  • Perform technical verification and final product checks within the authorized scope of practice of a registered pharmacy technician.
  • Identify discrepancies and refer clinical or therapeutic concerns to the pharmacist.
  • Maintain accurate patient, prescription, billing, and inventory records.

Blister Packaging

  • Prepare, organize, and verify blister packs and other compliance-packaging products.
  • Coordinate prescription renewals, medication changes, synchronization, and packaging schedules.
  • Investigate discrepancies and communicate medication changes to pharmacists and other team members.
  • Maintain accurate compliance-packaging and quality-control records.

Inventory and Pharmacy Operations

  • Manage prescription and over-the-counter inventory.
  • Monitor medication quantities, expiry dates, shortages, discontinued products, and back-orders.
  • Review medication recalls, safety notices, and product updates.
  • Remove and document recalled or expired products according to established procedures.
  • Communicate product problems or discrepancies to manufacturers, wholesalers, and suppliers when required.
  • Monitor and document refrigerator temperatures and immediately report any temperature excursions or equipment concerns.
  • Receive, organize, rotate, and restock medications and pharmacy supplies.
  • Restock vials, ointment jars, prescription bags, labels, paper products, and other dispensary supplies.
  • Order prescription labels, flyers, business cards, packaging materials, and other operational supplies.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records in Kroll.

Patient and Team Support

  • Conduct appropriate patient, medication, and product research for pharmacist review.
  • Communicate professionally with patients, caregivers, physicians, insurance providers, suppliers, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Protect patient confidentiality and comply with all applicable privacy requirements.
  • Help organize and prioritize pharmacy workflow during busy periods.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and professional dispensary, compounding, storage, shelving, workplace, and patient areas.
  • Assist with compounding activities when appropriately trained.
  • Complete other pharmacy-related duties within the registered pharmacy technician’s authorized scope of practice.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the Alberta College of Pharmacy.
  • Active Alberta practice permit in good standing.
  • Licensed and legally authorized to practise as a pharmacy technician in Alberta.
  • Minimum of one year of recent experience in a community pharmacy, healthcare setting, or comparable pharmacy environment.
  • Minimum of one year of Kroll pharmacy software experience.
  • Experience preparing and managing blister packs or other compliance packaging.
  • Strong knowledge of prescription processing, pharmacy terminology, medication names, third-party billing, and inventory procedures.
  • Excellent accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer, data-entry, and documentation abilities.
  • Excellent organization, time-management, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing positively to the pharmacy team.
  • Dependable, professional, and patient-focused work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years of recent community-pharmacy experience.
  • Previous experience working in an independent pharmacy.
  • Compounding experience.
  • Experience with medication synchronization, compliance packaging, inventory reconciliation, recalls, and third-party billing.

Compensation and Employment Details

  • Hourly wage: $27.00–$35.00, based on experience, qualifications, availability, Kroll proficiency, and compounding experience.
  • Full-time and part-time schedules are available.
  • Contract employment.
  • In-person work at our Calgary pharmacy.
  • Day, evening, weekday, and weekend availability may be required depending on the agreed schedule.
  • Hours and contract duration will be discussed with shortlisted candidates.
