Job Description

Sheridan is looking for outstanding individuals to join our faculty team in the Game Design Program. This program offers students a comprehensive set of practical and critical skills, as well as knowledge of game design and development. We are looking for part-time professors to teach in the following courses within Honours Bachelor of Game Design:

GAME27900 Level Design 1 – Foundations of Level Design (3 hours – 1 section)

GAME31208 – Game Practice 3: Gamification Project-Design Research (4 hours – 1-2 sections)

GAME39275 – UX and Social Network (3 hours – 3-4 sections)

GAME31816 – Design Practice 4: Gamification Product – Production, Data, Analytics (4 hours – 1-2 sections)

Course Outline

Sheridan professors are responsible for developing an effective learning environment for students while respecting their diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Delivering course curriculum in classroom and/or online, which includes ensuring student awareness of course objectives, delivery of learning outcomes, approach and evaluation techniques;
  • Tutoring and academic counselling of students, while evaluating student progress/achievement and assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of the students’ work within assigned courses; Faculty are expected make themselves accessible to students outside of class via email or scheduled office hours;
  • Defining, evaluating, and validating learning outcomes and designing appropriate strategies and tools for assessing student learning; Faculty are responsible for completing all grading of assignments in the agreed upon time frame; Grading of student work should include quality feedback that assists students in the understanding of the subject matter;
  • Developing individualized instruction and multi-media presentations and incorporating technology into the learning process where applicable; Faculty are responsible to ensure course materials deliver the learning objectives included in the course outlines;
  • Attending periodic faculty meetings and being responsive to communication from the Program Coordinator, staff and administration outside of class hours, for planning purposes and course maintenance.

The successful candidate will also meet the following requirements:

  • Master’s degree and/or equivalent relevant industry experience;
  • Experience in teaching and curriculum development at the post-secondary level or equivalent experience as a trainer in industry preferred;
  • Proven experience mentoring and facilitating teams, fostering collaboration, inclusive participation, and constructive critique;
  • Network of contacts with other professionals in the game industry;
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills;
  • Committed to excellence in teaching and learning and to working within a team environment.
  • GAME27900 Level Design 1
  • Minimum of 5 years related professional experience as a Game Level Designer or comparable;
  • Have Designed, Developed and Shipped multiple levels for a variety of platforms;
  • Experience working with editors and engines in the development of game levels;
  • Understanding of Level Design principles of play and what goes in to making “good levels” for a variety of genres.
  • GAME31208 – Game Practice 3 and GAME31816 – Design Practice 4
  • Minimum of 5 years related professional experience as a Game Producer or comparable;
  • Strong proficiency in evaluating game systems across multiple contexts, including serious, applied, or transformational games beyond entertainment;
  • Ability to produce and assess industry-standard documentation, such as project plans, design documents, workflows, and presentations that clearly defend design decisions;
  • Demonstrated ability to guide students through research-informed, iterative game design processes, including problem framing, prototyping, testing, and refinement.
  • GAME39275 – UX and Social Network
  • Minimum of 5 years related professional experience as a UI/UX Developer, Community Manager or comparable;
  • Knowledge of Game User Experience (UX) design, including usability evaluation, player onboarding, accessibility, player psychology, and engagement design;
  • Experience designing, managing, researching, or analyzing online communities, social networks, or live-service game ecosystems;
  • Knowledge of ethical engagement practices, monetization systems, and pattern identification within digital products and games.
