Job Purpose
The Registered Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and operation of the supported accommodation service for young people aged 16–18. The post holder will ensure the service complies with all relevant legislation, regulations, quality standards, and organisational policies, whilst providing a safe, nurturing, and empowering environment that promotes positive outcomes and independence for young people.
The Registered Manager will lead and develop a high-performing team, ensuring that young people receive person-centred support that enables them to achieve their full potential and successfully transition into adulthood.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership and Management
● Provide effective leadership and direction to all staff within the supported accommodation service.
● Create a positive, inclusive, and child-centred culture throughout the service.
● Recruit, supervise, develop, and retain a skilled and motivated workforce.
● Conduct regular supervision, performance reviews, and staff development meetings.
● Ensure staffing levels are maintained to meet the needs of young people and regulatory requirements.
● Promote professional standards, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Regulatory Compliance
● Maintain registration requirements and ensure compliance with supported accommodation regulations, standards, and guidance.
● Ensure policies, procedures, and practices are implemented effectively and reviewed regularly.
● Lead on inspections, audits, and quality assurance processes.
● Ensure accurate records are maintained and available for monitoring and inspection purposes.
● Notify relevant authorities of significant events as required by regulations.
Safeguarding and Child Protection
● Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (or ensure effective safeguarding leadership within the service).
● Promote a culture where safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.
● Ensure all safeguarding concerns are identified, reported, and managed appropriately.
● Work closely with local authorities, social workers, police, and other professionals to safeguard young people.
● Ensure risk assessments are completed, reviewed, and implemented effectively.
Young People’s Support and Development
● Ensure young people receive high-quality, person-centred support.
● Promote independence, resilience, emotional well-being, and life skills development.
● Support young people to access education, training, employment, healthcare, and community resources.
● Ensure support plans reflect individual needs, goals, and aspirations.
● Encourage participation and ensure young people’s voices influence service delivery.
Operational Management
● Manage the day-to-day operations of the supported accommodation service.
● Monitor occupancy levels and admissions processes.
● Ensure health and safety standards are maintained at all times.
● Oversee property maintenance and ensure accommodation remains safe and suitable.
● Manage budgets effectively and ensure financial accountability.
● Produce reports and management information as required.
Partnership Working
● Develop and maintain positive relationships with local authorities, commissioners, placing authorities, and external agencies.
● Represent the organisation professionally in meetings and multi-agency forums.
● Promote the service and support business development opportunities where appropriate.
Quality Assurance
● Monitor service performance against key indicators and quality standards.
● Conduct regular audits and implement improvement plans.
● Investigate complaints, incidents, and safeguarding concerns promptly and effectively.
● Drive a culture of learning, reflection, and continuous improvement.
Person SpecificationEssential Qualifications
● Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent relevant qualification).
● Evidence of ongoing professional development.
● Full UK driving licence (desirable depending on service requirements).
Essential Experience
● Significant experience working with vulnerable young people, including those aged 16–18.
● Previous management experience within supported accommodation, residential childcare, leaving care, or a similar setting.
● Experience managing safeguarding and child protection matters.
● Experience of regulatory compliance, inspections, and quality assurance.
● Experience managing and developing staff teams.
