Mechanical Engineering Department is searching for eligible candidates as Teaching Assistants in the following courses for the Fall 2026 term.

MECH 261/262 – Measurement Laboratory (4 positions 100 hours each and 1 position 75 hours)

MECH 265 – Numerical Linear Algebra(2 positions 90hours each)

MECH 289 – Design Graphics (3 positions 100 hours each)

MECH 292 – Design 1: Conceptual Design (2 positions 75 hours)

MECH 309 – Numerical Methods in Mechanical Engineering (2 positions 70 hours each)

MECH 314 – Dynamics of Mechanisms (2 positions 75 hours each)

MECH 315 – Intermediate Dynamics (2 positions 75 hours each)

Position Summary:

Assisting instructor of the course with instruction and evaluation of students.

Qualifications:

MECH 215 – Statics

Requires public speaking ability. Preferably have been a teaching assistant previously. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.

MECH 216 – Analytical Mechanics

Requires public speaking ability. Preferably have been a teaching assistant previously. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.

MECH 220 – Introduction to Dynamics

Requires public speaking ability. Must previously have taken this course with a good grade. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.

MECH 240 – Thermodynamics 1

Requires public speaking ability. Must previously have taken one of the following courses at McGill: MECH 346 (with a grade of ‘A’), MECH 650 or MECH 654. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring at McGill. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.

MECH 241 – Fundamentals of Thermodynamics

Requires public speaking ability. Preferably have been a teaching assistant previously. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.

MECH 261/262 – Measurement Laboratory

Lab TAs: Presence during scheduled lab experiment hours obligatory (decided per student lab sign-up after start of term). Must have completed MECH 261 or 262 or equivalent. Experience required in experimental research, measurement device operation and data analysis. Requires public speaking ability. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.

One Course TA: Must have completed MECH 261 or 262 or equivalent. Understanding of the principles of measurement device operation, electric circuits, statistics and data analysis required. Requires public speaking ability. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.

MECH 265 – Numerical Linear Algebra

Requires public speaking ability. Must previously have taken this course with a good grade. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.

MECH 289 – Design Graphics [for non-Mechanical Engineers]

Requires public speaking ability. Must previously have taken this course with a good grade. Experience with Design Graphics, Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D and 3D and standards and conventions of Design Graphics Communication necessary. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.

MECH 292 – Design 1: Conceptual Design

Requires public speaking ability. Must previously have taken this course with a good grade. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.

MECH 309 – Numerical Methods in Mechanical Engineering

Requires public speaking ability. Must previously have taken this course with a good grade. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.

MECH 314 – Dynamics of Mechanisms

Requires public speaking ability. Must previously have taken this course with a good grade. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. Must have done a thesis, written a conference/journal paper or done a senior project involving mechanisms and/or kinematics. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.

MECH 315 – Intermediate Dynamics

Requires public speaking ability. Must previously have taken this course with a grade of at least ‘A-’. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.

MECH 321 – Mechanics of Deformable Solids

Requires public speaking ability. Experience with finite element method and solid mechanics necessary. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.

MECH 331 – Fluid Mechanics 1

Requires public speaking ability. Must previously have taken this course plus MECH 533 and MECH 610. Graduate studies completed or in progress in fluid mechanics or aerodynamics required. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.

MECH 341 – Thermodynamics II

Requires public speaking ability. Must previously have taken this course at McGill with a good grade and preferably have been a teaching assistant for this course and/or MECH 240 previously. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.

MECH 346 – Heat Transfer

Requires public speaking ability. Must have completed and excelled in MECH 240 (or equivalent), MECH 331 (or equivalent), MECH 346 (or equivalent), and MECH 650. Prior TA experience in MECH 346 is highly desirable. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.

MECH 360 – Principles of Manufacturing

Must previously have taken MECH 360 or equivalent with a good grade. Must identify self to instructor as potential TA at least one term before application, for training during class tutorials. Basic knowledge of metrology instruments, how to use and read caliper, what are coordinate measuring machines and measurement probes. Basic understanding of geometric and dimensional tolerances. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.

MECH 362 – Mechanical Laboratory 1

Requires public speaking ability. Must previously have taken this course or equivalent. Must have completed an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.

MECH 383 – Applied Electronics and Instrumentation

Requires public speaking ability. Must previously have taken this course or equivalent. Must be a graduate in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. Experience in Python programming is required. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.

MECH 390 – Computer Aided Design

Requires public speaking ability. Preferably have been a teaching assistant previously. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.

MECH 393 – Design 2: Machine Element Design

Requires public speaking ability. Preferably have been a teaching assistant for this course previously. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.

MECH 412 – System Dynamics and Control

Requires public speaking ability. Must have completed a course in system dynamics and control. Experience with Matlab/Simulink and MSC ADAMS. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.

MECH 419 – Advanced Mechanics of Systems

Requires public speaking ability. Must previously have taken this course or equivalent. Graduate studies in system dynamics and controls. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.

MECH 430 – Fluid Mechanics 2

Requires public speaking ability. Must previously have taken this course or an equivalent course on compressible flow and have research experience in gasdynamics. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.

MECH 447 – Combustion

Requires public speaking ability. Preferably have been a teaching assistant previously. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or

MECH 463 – Mechanical Engineering Project

Requires public speaking ability. Must previously taken this course or equivalent. (hands-on design and build capstone project course). Experience with WebCT environment is an asset. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.
