Lead Architect – SAP Commerce Cloud

We are recruiting a Lead Architect – SAP Commerce Cloud with strong software development expertise, a solid architecture mindset, and technical leadership skills for our client, an international group with 30 years of presence in Romania.

You’ll join their growing IT team in Bucharest, combining hands-on backend development with software architecture and technical leadership. You’ll lead the technical development of SAP Commerce Cloud, define APIs and integration concepts, and help optimise the recently migrated cloud platform for evolving market needs.

Location: One Cotroceni Park, Building B, Bucharest

Hybrid: 3 days/week in the office

Employment: Individual Employment Contract (CIM)

Main Responsibilities

Backend Development \& Technical Delivery

• Lead hands-on backend development for SAP Commerce Cloud.
• Define and implement technical concepts, APIs, and integration logic.
• Optimise the recently migrated SAP Commerce Cloud platform to meet evolving market needs.
• Evaluate and introduce suitable new features, extensions and integrations.
• Ensure the performance, stability and security of the solutions.

Software Architecture \& Standards

• Define and maintain software architecture and development standards across the sub-group.
• Establish technical standards covering programming languages, frameworks, naming conventions, coding guidelines and operating models.
• Develop architecture blueprints and governance principles for software solutions.
• Drive consistency and compliance with defined software requirements across the organisation.

Technical Leadership \& Collaboration

• Advise project teams on architecture decisions and technology selection.
• Provide technical leadership across projects and coach internal development teams.
• Manage external development partners and ensure the quality of their work.
• Collaborate closely with Enterprise Architecture, IT Operations and Security.
• Foster consistent development practices and a strong software engineering culture across the organisation.
• Provide technical leadership without direct people-management responsibility.

Requirements

• University degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, or equivalent professional experience.
• Strong hands-on software development experience at senior level, combined with proven software architecture expertise.
• Hands-on experience with SAP Commerce Cloud and backend development.
• Strong understanding of Java-based enterprise applications and modern software architectures.
• Solid knowledge of microservices, API design, cloud-native development, and DevOps.
• Experience defining and implementing coding, development, and architecture standards.
• Experience working with or managing external development partners.
• Strategic and conceptual thinking combined with a strong hands-on mentality.
• High degree of ownership and confidence in driving technical decisions.
• Experience providing technical leadership and coaching development teams.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain architecture and technology decisions clearly across the organisation.
• Business-proficient English.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Spring / Spring Boot.
• Exposure to AWS, Kubernetes and containerised environments
