Job Description

Position: Pipefitter

Location of Work: Grand Prairie, Alberta
Terms of Employment: Contract, project-based (2 - 3 months)
Employment Conditions: Morning, Day, Evening, Overnight, Weekend
Start Date: End of May
Number of Positions: 5
Travel Requirements: Willing to Relocate or should be local to Grand Prairie

Responsibilities:

  • Interpret blueprints and specifications to lay out and execute work.
  • Unload and stack steel units for hoisting.
  • Erect and install scaffolding, construction cranes, derricks, and other hoisting equipment.
  • Assemble rigging (cables, pulleys, hooks) to move heavy equipment and materials.
  • Direct crane operators using hand signals or radios for precise positioning.
  • Position steel units, align holes, and insert temporary bolts.
  • Check alignments and join steel parts using bolting or tack welding.
  • Assemble and erect prefabricated metal structures.
  • Select, cut, bend, and secure steel bars or wire mesh in concrete forms.
  • Install ornamental and structural metalwork such as curtain walls, metal stairways, railings, and power doors.
  • Unload and install pre-cast components.

Requirements:

  • Journeyman certification
  • Red Seal Certificate (Optional)
  • Work with precise limits or standards of accuracy.
  • Make decisions based on measurable criteria and visualize objects in three-dimensions from plans and drawings.
  • Able to read and follow drawings.
  • Select type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications.
  • Inspects worksites to determine presence of obstructions and to ascertain the holes will not cause structural
  • weakness.
  • Follows the sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other disciplines.
  • Cuts pipe using various tools and equipment.
  • Threads pipe using threading machine, also bends pipe with hand or with a pipe-bending machine.
  • Assemble and installs variety of metal and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings, including those made of brass,
  • copper, lead, glass, and plastic.
  • Follows all TDE’s welding procedures (WPS) for the purpose of tacking pipe components.
  • Secures pipes to structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers, using hand tools.
  • Installs and maintains refrigeration and air-conditioning systems including compressors, pumps, meters,
  • pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and piping.
  • Tests piping system for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges.
  • Able to follow instructions exactly as given.
  • Mentors and works closely with Pipefitter Apprentices.
  • Reports any issues and/or concerns to the Piping Lead Hand and/or the Production Superintendent.

Compensation:

  • $30.00 - $45.00 per hour based on experience.
  • Shift rotation: 17 days on, 4 days off
  • 11-hour Per day (flexible based on project needs).
  • Compensation and benefits will align with the Collective Agreement.

Working Conditions:

  • Repetitive movement and ability to lift materials weighing up to 25kg.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environments and adjust to continuously changing tasks.
  • Capability to work extended hours, often in diverse weather conditions.
