The Opportunity
Boyce Group is seeking a creative, commercially minded Interior Designer with a genuine knowledge of design history, period styles and contemporary influences. Working alongside our lead designer, director and construction managers, you will take interiors from concept and measured drawings to costed specifications, procurement, installation and final styling.
Our lead designer takes maternity leave in 2027. You will be able to learn the projects before assuming greater responsibility. This is a permanent addition to the team, not temporary maternity cover, and continues when she returns.

- Nonsuch Estate, Wiltshire — Restoring a Grade II* listed country estate as a luxury hospitality destination, with individually designed accommodation and guest facilities.
- Bristol student accommodation — Designing practical, durable and attractive studio interiors and residential conversions.
- Newport regeneration — Kingsway Centre retail and leisure transformation, plus proposals for several hundred city-centre flats.

What you’ll do
- Measure and survey properties; prepare accurate existing plans, proposed layouts, interior elevations and practical technical details in SketchUp and LayOut.
- Design kitchens, bathrooms, joinery and furnishings; specify materials, finishes and fittings with sensitivity to each building’s character, use and budget.
- Prepare room-by-room schedules, quantities and costed specifications for interior packages; obtain and compare quotations for joinery, kitchens, fixtures and furnishings.
- Manage design-package budgets, committed purchases and variations; propose value-engineered alternatives and flag forecast overspends promptly.
- Coordinate specifications and procurement requirements with our purchasing administrator; maintain drawing revisions, lead times, order requirements and supplier information.
- Work on site with the director, construction managers and trades, review design-related changes, inspect finishes and oversee installation and final styling.
- Support pricing enquiries and scope clarification for interior packages, ensuring suppliers and contractors quote on a comparable basis.
What we’re looking for
- Sound knowledge of interior design history, periods, furniture, proportion, detailing and design movements; confidence working in heritage and contemporary settings.
- Proficient in SketchUp and LayOut, with a portfolio showing creative judgement, accurate plans, elevations and completed work.
- Commercially astute: comfortable with estimating interior costs, Excel, purchasing, negotiation and tracking budgets.
- Experience in interior design or a closely related discipline; organised, practical and confident working with site teams.
- Full driving license and own car for travel between projects.
Useful but not essential: AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Cloud, construction-material knowledge, listed buildings, hospitality and multi-unit residential experience.
