Ground Worker

Job Summary

We are seeking a reliable, hardworking Ground Worker to join our Coalville‑based team. You will support a wide range of projects across commercial sites, social housing estates and private domestic properties. This role includes general groundworks, back‑garden clearances, street amendments and external property improvements. Ideal for someone who enjoys practical outdoor work and takes pride in delivering high‑quality results.

Duties

• Operate machinery including excavators and power tools safely and efficiently for construction or landscaping projects
• Support irrigation system installation, repair, and maintenance to ensure proper watering of gardens and landscaped areas
• Trenching, footings, foundations, concreting and reinstatement.
• Assisting with laying pipework, installing chambers and supporting drainage teams.
• Installing kerbs, edgings, slabs and hard‑landscaping elements.
• Slab laying \& concreting — Preparing bases, mixing, pouring and finishing concrete.
• External works for social housing — Minor reinstatement, pathway repairs, fence line preparation, gate installations and external tidy‑ups.
• Back‑garden clearances — Clearing overgrown gardens, removing waste and preparing areas for reinstatement or improvement works.
• Garden amendments (construction‑based) — Levelling ground, preparing bases, laying slabs, installing edging and improving outdoor spaces structurally.
• Material handling — Moving aggregates, slabs, tools and equipment safely.
• Small plant operation — Using compactors, breakers, saws and other small machinery.
• Health \& safety compliance

Required Qualifications \& Experience

• CSCS Card — Valid CSCS Labourer or Skilled Worker card (essential).
• Groundworks experience — Proven background in construction, civils or reinstatement.
• Manual handling capability — Ability to lift, carry and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Safety awareness — Strong understanding of site safety and PPE use.
• Teamwork — Ability to work effectively within a site team and follow instructions clearly.
• Driving licence — Preferred due to travel between sites.

Desirable Machinery \& Plant Tickets

• NPORS Dumper — Forward‑tipping dumper operation.
• NPORS Roller — Ride‑on roller for compaction works.
• Mini digger ticket — Operating 1.5–3 tonne excavators for small digs and trenching.
• CPCS equivalents — CPCS dumper/roller tickets also accepted.
• Abrasive wheels — For cutting slabs, concrete and reinstatement materials.
• Confined spaces — Beneficial for drainage and chamber installation.
• Manual handling certification — Advantageous but not essential.
