General Manager
Job Description

About the role

Artybaker is looking for an experienced General Manager to take full responsibility for the day-to-day operation and performance of our Sandymount shop.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can build a strong team, maintain excellent standards and run a busy hospitality operation with confidence. You will be accountable for the performance of this location, including its people, customer experience, sales, staffing, stock, waste, administration and operational standards.

You will work closely with Artybaker’s owners and operations leadership, but you will be trusted to take ownership of your shop, make sound decisions and ensure that agreed actions are followed through.

Key responsibilities

Leading the team

  • Lead, support and motivate the shop team each day.
  • Set clear expectations and create a positive, respectful and accountable working environment.
  • Recruit, onboard, train and develop team members.
  • Provide regular feedback and address performance, attendance or conduct concerns promptly and fairly.
  • Delegate effectively and ensure responsibilities are clearly understood.
  • Plan rotas and deploy the team according to trading patterns and operational needs.

Running the shop

  • Take responsibility for the smooth day-to-day operation of the location.
  • Maintain consistently high standards of service, product presentation, cleanliness and organisation.
  • Ensure the shop is properly prepared for opening, peak trading periods and closing.
  • Manage busy service periods calmly and remain visible and involved on the shop floor.
  • Identify operational problems, establish their cause and follow through on practical solutions.
  • Ensure company procedures and standards are consistently followed.

Commercial performance

  • Take ownership of the shop’s sales and operational performance.
  • Monitor agreed KPIs, including sales, labour, waste, average transaction value and productivity.
  • Review results regularly, identify areas requiring attention and implement clear actions.
  • Schedule and deploy the team effectively while balancing customer service with labour targets.
  • Support local sales growth through excellent execution, strong customer relationships and appropriate commercial initiatives.

Stock and cost control

  • Manage ordering, stock availability, stock rotation and waste.
  • Work closely with the production team to maintain availability while avoiding unnecessary over-ordering.
  • Investigate stock or waste issues and take action to improve performance.
  • Maintain accurate controls for transactions, refunds and other financial procedures.

Customer experience

  • Create a warm, efficient and consistent experience for every customer.
  • Ensure the team can maintain service pace and quality during busy periods.
  • Respond to customer feedback and resolve complaints professionally.
  • Build relationships with regular customers and represent Artybaker positively within the local community.

Compliance and administration

  • Protect food safety, health and safety, and security standards.
  • Ensure all required checks, records and incident reports are completed correctly.
  • Complete payroll information, HR administration and operational reporting accurately and on time.
  • Communicate clearly with senior management and raise important risks or concerns early.

About you

You will have:

  • Previous management experience in a café, bakery, restaurant, food retail business or another busy hospitality environment.
  • Experience directly leading a team and taking responsibility for day-to-day performance.
  • The confidence to set expectations, give feedback and manage difficult situations fairly.
  • A practical understanding of sales, labour, waste, stock control and other commercial measures.
  • Strong organisational skills and reliable follow-through.
  • The ability to remain calm, decisive and constructive during busy or challenging periods.
  • High standards for customer service, cleanliness and presentation.
  • Confidence using rota, point-of-sale, HR and reporting systems.
  • Clear and professional communication skills.
  • The flexibility to work according to the needs of the shop, including early starts and weekends where required.

Experience in artisan bakery or specialty coffee would be an advantage, but strong operational leadership and people-management ability are more important than specific product knowledge.

What success looks like

A successful General Manager will create a shop that is:

  • Well organised and consistently ready for service.
  • Led by a capable, motivated and accountable team.
  • Known for warm, efficient customer service.
  • Performing well against sales, labour, waste and operational targets.
  • Maintaining excellent food-safety, cleanliness and presentation standards.
  • Administered accurately, without senior management having to chase routine tasks.
  • Improving because its manager takes ownership and follows through.

Pay: From €18.00 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 40.0 per week

Work Location: In person
