Position Summary:
The School of Architecture and Design invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Art History and Architectural History at the rank of Full Professor, Associate Professor, or Assistant Professor, depending on qualifications and experience. Candidates with academic qualifications in Architecture or Architectural History are strongly encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching Art History and Architectural History within a design-oriented academic environment, maintain an active research profile, and contribute to critical discourse in historical and contemporary art and architectural contexts. The appointee will support undergraduate education, curriculum development, research initiatives, student mentorship, and institutional service within a collaborative and multicultural academic setting.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Curriculum Development
Deliver undergraduate courses in Art History and Architectural History, including global art history, modern and contemporary art, architectural history, design history, visual culture, and critical theory.
Teach survey and specialized courses aligned with Interior Design, Graphic Design, and Architecture programs.
Integrate interdisciplinary perspectives connecting art history, architecture, and design practice.
Develop and update course content to reflect scholarly advancements and accreditation expectations.
Guide students in research-based writing, analytical methodologies, and presentation skills.
Contribute to curriculum review and program development initiatives.
Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity
Maintain an active research agenda in Art History, Architectural History, or related fields.
Publish in peer-reviewed journals and present at reputable national and international conferences.
Contribute to exhibitions, symposia, or scholarly collaborations where appropriate.
Support the School’s academic visibility and research profile.
Pursue interdisciplinary research initiatives and external funding where applicable.
Service and Institutional Engagement
Engage actively in departmental, school, and university committees.
Support program assessment, accreditation documentation, and quality assurance activities.
Participate in student recruitment, outreach initiatives, exhibitions, competitions, and community engagement.
Offer academic advising and mentorship to students.
Foster a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the academic community.
Qualifications
Required
Academic Credentials
PhD in Art History, Architectural History, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
Candidates with qualifications in Architecture or an Architecture-related discipline are strongly encouraged to apply.
Teaching Experience
Minimum of five years of university-level teaching experience (for senior ranks), with demonstrated excellence in delivering Art History or Architectural History courses.
Disciplinary Expertise
Strong foundation in global art history, architectural history, critical theory, and visual analysis methodologies.
Research and Scholarship
Evidence of research, publication in peer-reviewed journals, or recognized scholarly or creative practice.
Cultural Competency
Experience working effectively in multicultural and diverse academic environments.
Communication Skills
Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
Preferred
Specialization Areas
Expertise in modern/contemporary art, Islamic art history, architectural history, design history, or visual culture studies.
Accreditation Experience
Familiarity with accreditation standards (e.g., NASAD, NAAB or equivalent).
Interdisciplinary Engagement
Experience working within design, architecture, or fine arts programs.
Graduate Supervision Experience
Experience supervising research projects or thesis-level work (for Associate/Full Professor level).
External Funding
Demonstrated ability to secure grants or research funding (preferred for senior ranks).
