POSITION SUMMARY: The Food Access Warehouse Operations & Inventory Coordinator manages daily warehouse operations, inventory systems, and food distribution to support equitable community access. This role ensures safe and efficient logistics, coordinates volunteers and partners, and drives continuous improvement aligned with food justice and organizational goals. All Coordinators are cross-trained and expected to step into and support one another’s roles as needed to ensure continuity of operations, including during staff absences, schedule gaps, or periods of increased demand.

LOCATION: 1100 E 18th Ave, Denver, CO 80218

COMPENSATION:$30.04-$33.65 hourly, full-time, non-exempt (the annual salary range for this position is $49,987 to $55,994)

SCHEDULE: Metro Caring currently operates on a four-day work week for full-time staff, with Fridays off. Typical Food Access Team hours are 7:30-3:30 pm. Occasional Tuesday and Wednesday evenings as well as some weekends may be required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Food Access Program Partnerships

  • Communicate clearly with diverse groups of people throughout our community including volunteers, donors, and participants.
  • Articulate and model Metro Caring’s values for volunteers and others in the Metro Caring community.
  • Build and maintain Metro Caring food access partnerships with values aligned organizations and vendors.

Volunteer Management

  • Support the Food Access Assistants in aligning volunteer work with daily market & warehouse goals.
  • Lead 1 Food Access volunteer shift per week.
  • Support shift leads in daily product storage, rotation, and distribution needs.
  • Provide brief warehouse safety training for first day volunteers.
  • Support a fun and positive volunteer experience.
  • Ensure volunteers are performing their assigned duties.
  • Be available to volunteers throughout the shift to answer any questions and concerns they may have.
  • Work with the volunteer team and Food Access Senior Manager to help resolve conflict between volunteers.

Market & Warehouse Management

  • Create a daily plan for the distribution of inventory based on available products.
  • Understand how the daily, weekly, monthly food access duties and changes in the charitable feeding sector impact the warehouse and market functions and proactively prepare to maintain consistent distribution.
  • Guide the Food Access Assistants through the day’s plan and expectations, ensuring they have all tools, materials, and knowledge they need to succeed.
  • Complete daily safety logs for various equipment including but not limited to- the walk-in cooler, walk-in freezer, electric pallet jacks, and two commercial vehicles.
  • Work with Senior Manager of Food Access and Operations Manager to maintain, repair, or improve all equipment necessary for warehouse/market operation.
  • Ensure all practices for handling and distributing inventory exceed health and safety standards set by health department, FDA, and OSHA.
  • Assures programmatic compliance with Feeding America and USDA Nutrition Programs such as TEFAP; proper food storage and handling, data entry and reporting.
  • Track, manage, and support ordering new inventory for the warehouse. Working with the Food Access Senior Manager to ensure purchasing is aligned with the program budget and values.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the distribution model based on organizational goals and work collectively with the Food Access Team to improve distribution through the market.
  • Drive Metro Caring’s 24’ refrigerated box truck and 16’ box truck to complete food pick-ups as necessary.
  • Use electric pallet jacks and forklift to load/unload trucks and move inventory throughout the warehouse.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS / ABILITIES

  • Experience overseeing volunteers and setting direction.
  • Experience managing inventory, placing orders, and maintaining vendor relationships.
  • Ability to consistently collect and accurately report and review safety data.
  • Ability to motivate and direct others, working in a team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, particularly in diverse communities.
  • Ability to critically evaluate the condition of equipment/infrastructure and the willingness to research appropriate remedies.
  • Ability to bring a diverse, equitable, and inclusive lens to their work.
  • Ability to critically examine the effectiveness of work processes and the willingness to research and collaborate with others to create improvements.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs repeatedly throughout the shift.

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.

  • Commitment to nurturing spaces for thoughtful, specific feedback—and openness to receiving and integrating feedback as part of continuous growth and performance management.
  • 1-2 years experience in warehouse, food retail, or food service operations.
  • 1–2-years experience working within community-based, mission driven organizations or non-profits.
  • Comfort with manual, hands-on work in a warehouse environment, and the ability to foster enthusiasm and engagement among volunteers supporting these efforts.
  • Innovative, solutions-oriented, thinker with a creative approach to problem-solving.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS / ABILITIES

  • Experience with data management systems such as Salesforce for data entry.
  • Experience with project management software such as Asana.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English speaker preferred.
  • Able to work Tuesday and Wednesday evenings on a semi-regular basis; other evenings when required.
  • Experience driving box trucks.
  • Experience using electric pallet jacks, forklifts, and other warehouse equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This role requires the ability to stand for long periods of time, lift 50 lbs repeatedly, operate warehouse equipment such as electric pallet jacks and forklifts, drive/load/unload 16’ and 24’ box trucks, and work in extreme temperatures from freezers to hot summer days.

Applicants must have reliable transportation. Relocation costs are not covered by Metro Caring.
