Job Description

SALARY:

$30.14 per hour + 14% in lieu of benefits \= $34.36 per hour! (JB08)

$19.89 per hour + 14% in lieu of benefits \= $22.67 per hour! (JB04)

CLASSIFICATION:

JB08 - Instructional Team Leader I (Fitness Instructor)

JB04 - Program Instructor II (Weightroom Attendant)

HOURS OF WORK: Mondays from 6:15AM – 7:15AM and Saturdays from 9AM – 12PM; 4-6 hours per week. Hours are variable and may include shifts in the mornings, afternoons and evenings. Must be able to work a variety of shifts to support operational needs.

Position Overview

We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals who are passionate about health, fitness, and contributing to the well‑being of our community.

Under the direction of the Fitness Coordinator, the Fitness Instructor plans and leads group classes ensuring the program content and music are appropriate for the class, and exercises are safe and suitable for the level of participants. Fitness class formats include indoor cycling, total body conditioning, boot camp, circuit training, strength and conditioning, low impact cardio, parent and tot, and others. Instructors are responsible for setup/clean-up of class equipment and promotion of fitness programs and services.

Opportunities to work as a Weightroom Attendant may also become available. The Weightroom Attendant is responsible for ensuring that patrons use the facility and equipment safely while adhering to established procedures and etiquette. This role focuses on delivering exceptional customer service and fostering a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment for all participants.

In addition to great wages, employees receive access to counselling, and a staff facility pass which provides drop-in use of the weightroom, fitness classes, skating, the pool and our 9-hole golf course.

Qualifications

  • Current registration as a group fitness instructor (BCRPA, Canfitpro, CSEP, ACE, ACSM, Canada Fitness Education Services, NFLA, ISSA, or an approved equivalent) is required to work as a fitness instructor.
  • Current Emergency First Aid with CPR A/AED certificate is required, though CPR level C/AED is preferred.
  • Current registration as a BCRPA strength trainer, personal trainer, or equivalent is considered an asset.
  • Indoor cycling certification is an asset.
  • Minimum one-year experience instructing safe group fitness classes.
  • Lesson planning, strong communication and organizational skills are required.
  • Demonstrated experience in public relations, professionalism, and strong customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively in a team environment, as well as to work independently.
