Job Description

This is an opportunity for an experienced and ambitious Financial Accountant to join a growing and thriving organisation in the Retail sector.

This role reports to the Financial Controller and provides an opportunity for the successful applicant to lead and take ownership of key tasks within Finance.

The successful candidate will contribute to and gain experience across several areas including Financial Reporting, Financial Operations, and New Systems Development.

Financial Accountant Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management \& Reporting

  • Working in conjunction with the financial controller.
  • Lead the day-to-day management of the finance function, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and cash flow.
  • With the assistance of the general finance team, you will be responsible for production of Monthly and Quarterly management accounts.
  • Assist in the preparation of accurate annual management accounts and forecasts, for Audit purposes.
  • Develop budgets in collaboration with senior management and monitor performance against targets.
  • Manage all tax compliance returns of the organisation both periodically and annually. This includes VAT, LPT, RCT and PAYE returns.
  • Maintenance of Fixed asset register.
  • Present timely financial reports and insights for the CEO, Board, and Audit \& Risk Committee.
  • Completion of all Intrastat Monthly and Quarterly reports.
  • Overseeing Credit and Cash control processing.
  • Liaise with External \& Internal Auditors and oversee the annual audit process.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of management and the accounting team, and capacity to work on own initiative.
  • Systems accounting in respect of IT improvements, automated Bank Reconciliation, Stock Control and Cycle Counting.
  • Monthly Payroll processing and oversight on the Weekly Payroll.
  • Year-end processing on Weekly and Monthly Payrolls.
  • Reviewing and sign-off on all overheads for processing on to the system.
  • Annual Stock Take in December with detailed analysis on Stock aging and costing.
  • To develop Business Intelligence reporting within Core software.
  • Develop our accounting system with improved use of excel and modern accounting software and to ensure financial systems and software are efficient, secure, and fit for purpose.

Team \& Systems Leadership

  • Oversee and develop the finance team, ensuring effective performance and professional development.
  • Champion a culture of accountability and continued system improvements to produce better systems and controls and improve the overall efficiency of the company.
  • Ability to get involved in all aspects of the financial function to improve profitability and support our management team.
  • Ability to work with and manage the accounting team.

Qualifications \& Experience

  • Professional accounting qualification essential.
  • Ideally minimum 6+ years post-qualification experience.
  • Experience in preparing management accounts, budgets, and financial models.
  • Proven ability to engage with senior management.
  • Excellent IT skills, with strong knowledge of accounting systems and Microsoft Office.
