Farm Manager

Job Description
  • Minimum 30 hours per week guaranteed.
  • Employee housing is available on-site. Accommodation may be shared or private, depending on availability at the time of successful placement. No pets allowed.
  • Drive-in applicants must be able to demonstrate they can reliably meet the requirements of the roster; candidates residing outside a reasonable commuting distance who are unwilling to relocate may be considered unsuitable for these operational reasons.

Candidates must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Bachelor's degree; and / OR
  • Candidate must have at least 2 years of relevant experience;

Applicants must have the following as per employer’s requirement:

  • Must be physically fit
  • Must pass pre-employment drug test
  • Must provide a CV Must provide verifiable references of previous employment history
  • Must have right to work in NZ/be NZ resident/Citizen
  • Must have a driver licence

Business Management

  • Responsible for operating farm within agreed budget and financial objectives
  • Responsible for the implementation of the Financial Budget and the Strategic Plan for the farm
  • Staff and contractors are managed using good practice management techniques
  • Train and mentor staff in animal welfare, pasture management, machinery use, effluent management and safe farm practices.

Production Management

  • Collect and use information to ensure farm targets are met
  • Responsible for achieving the farm production targets be ensuring information is collected and used to manage herd feeding, maximising milk production protecting pasture quality and avoiding pasture damage
  • Monitor, benchmark and report on KPIs and implement operational improvements where necessary.

Stock Management – Animal Health and Welfare

  • Responsible for the management of animal health and welfare on farm
  • Responsible for the managing all stock associated with the farm business to the highest level
  • Develop, implement and monitor calving and mating plans, reporting progress and taking appropriate action based on herd performance.

Stock Management – Calf Rearing

  • Manage calf rearing so farm targets are met
  • Objective is to rear calves to the target weight so only quality young stock re-enter the herd

Milk Production

  • Responsible for meeting targets
  • Objective is only top quality product leaves the farm gate. Achieved through continuous grade free seasons according to farm targets

Record Keeping

  • Responsible for overseeing all farm records
  • Maintain all farm records in an accurate and timely manner

Asset Management

  • Responsible for ensuring asset management as per Farm Policy
  • Manage the farm infrastructure and maintain farm assets

Natural Resource Management

  • Responsible for managing natural resources
  • Ensure environmental requirements are met as outlined in the Farm Operations Manual

Health and Safety

  • Ensure the farm promotes a safe working environment
  • Comply with all health and safety requirements as outlined in the Health and Safety Manual
