Faculty Position: Psychology

Tenure Track (Full Time)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Faculty of Social Science at The King’s University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track

appointment in our 3 and 4-year BA and 4-year BSc Psychology programs, beginning August 1, 2027. The area

of scholarly specialty is open but the Psychology department is seeking a new member that can teach courses

in Biological Psychology and can complement and expand current faculty research and course offerings, for

example in Developmental Psychology or Educational/School Psychology. We are committed to continuing to

build vibrant Psychology programs at King's that foster the inclusion of diverse perspectives and voices and

that include the voices of marginalized people.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The ideal candidates will bring with them a dedication to excellence in teaching and in research. Candidates

will demonstrate an ability to teach a variety of courses in psychology, including Biopsychology (e.g.,

Evolution, Genes, and Behaviour; Sensation and Perception; The Biopsychology of Human Sexuality) as well as

areas such as Developmental Psychology (e.g., Child and Adolescent Development; Adult Development and

Aging). The successful candidate will have an innovative and active program of research with the ability to

incorporate advanced undergraduate students into their research projects. Responsibilities include:

• Teaching the equivalent of 6 courses per year in undergraduate programming
• Engagement in an on-going scholarly research program
• On-going service to the Psychology department, the Faculty of Social Science, and the greater

university community and external stakeholders

• Creating connections and developing relationships with students through advising, research supervision, and mentoring

The successful candidate will demonstrate a growing and evolving ability to articulate the connection between

psychology and the Christian faith. Their approach would welcome diverse students and colleagues into a

shared project of understanding our society and our times in the light of core faith commitments and values.

The successful candidate will have a solid grounding in quantitative or qualitative approaches to scholarly

research and will welcome the opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary and collegial environment that also

values autonomy and scholarly development.

The successful candidate is required to hold a Ph.D. or equivalent in Psychology. Candidates who are close to

Ph.D. completion are encouraged to apply; the appointment will be contingent upon the completion of the

Ph.D. by an agreed-upon date.

Bachelor of Science degrees, a Bachelor of Commerce, and a two-year after-degree Bachelor of Education

(Elementary and Secondary) accredited by the province of Alberta. The University is a member of Universities

The King’s University follows a standardized salary grid. The salary range for an Assistant Professor is $74,969 -

$94,219/yr dependent on qualifications and experience. A comprehensive benefit package, pension, and

generous vacation and time off are provided.
