Job Description

The City of Delavan is accepting lateral applications to hire certified full-time police officers. Application deadline will be 8/15/2026. Requirements:

-21+ years of age.
-High school diploma or equivalent.
-US Citizen.
-Must reside within 30 miles of city hall.
-Must be in good standard with the Training and Standards Board.
-Must be in good physical condition (determined by a physical).
-Must be able to pass psychological, polygraph, and background investigation.
-$28.08 to $31/hr ($58,406 to $64,480/year) + $1/hr after probation.
-Shift flexibility and good availability a must.
-Expected to work nights/weekends/holidays.
-Two years of experience preferred (but not required).

Job requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • Enforcing laws
  • Ensuring the safety and security of the public by responding to emergencies, providing assistance to victims, and reducing or preventing involvement in crime
  • Building relationships with the community while helping to contribute to the health and safety of vulnerable populations
  • Creating community awareness by using crime prevention methods or intervention initiatives
  • Conducting investigations by interviewing suspects, witnesses, and collecting evidence at crime scenes
  • Working with the court system, including collecting evidence for trial as well as attending and testifying at trial upon request
  • Participating in and testifying at court hearings when required
  • Processing incident reports with accurate detail and factual information
  • Assisting the city with various tasks including Code Enforcement responsibilities

Pay: $58,406.00 - $64,480.00 per year
