About the Role

We are looking for a seasoned Engineering Director to lead and scale our Platform and Infrastructure function. You will manage a team of Engineering Managers across DevOps, Application Support, Incident Management, Production Engineering, and Reliability, owning the foundation that every product at YouTrip and YouBiz runs on. This is a senior role in our Engineering leadership team, reporting directly to the CPTO.

This role is not a step back from the technical detail. It is for someone who uses that depth to make better decisions about architecture, reliability, scalability, tooling, and delivery.

You Will

Lead Engineering Execution

• Own delivery and operational excellence across platform and infrastructure squads, setting a high bar for reliability, scalability, and speed of execution
• Drive infrastructure programme planning, milestone scoping, and release readiness for platform-level changes
• Establish and maintain engineering standards across infrastructure as code, observability, incident response, and post-mortems
• Lead planning and execution of complex programmes such as cloud migrations, platform transitions, and major infrastructure overhauls, sequencing dependencies and keeping stakeholders aligned across the full lifecycle
• Proactively identify risks to platform stability and act on them before they escalate

Own Reliability and Incident Management

• Set and uphold SLAs and SLOs across production systems, with clear ownership of availability and performance targets
• Lead the incident management function end to end, from detection and response through to structured post-mortems and systematic prevention
• Ensure engineering readiness for business continuity, so that failure modes are understood, recovery is practiced, and escalation paths are clear before they are needed
• Drive Application Support as a disciplined, metrics-driven function that resolves issues fast and feeds learnings back into engineering

Build and Develop the Organisation

• Build and scale a group of high-performing engineering managers and engineers, raising the leadership bar across the organisation as headcount and platform complexity grow
• Own engineering hiring from sourcing strategy to bar-raising in interviews
• Measure platform and delivery performance with meaningful metrics and use that data to differentiate strong performers, identify gaps, and make deliberate decisions on who to grow, stretch, or transition
• Build a team culture that is direct, collaborative, and outcome-oriented

Drive Technical Direction

• Maintain strong technical depth across cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and platform engineering to credibly review architectural decisions and challenge tradeoffs
• Define and evolve our cloud architecture strategy, infrastructure security posture, and platform reliability standards as we scale across markets
• Champion the adoption of AI-assisted development and operations practices as a genuine force multiplier across the engineering organisation

Lead Across Functions

• Act as a trusted infrastructure partner to product engineering teams, ensuring platform capabilities keep pace with product ambition
• Engage with external cloud and infrastructure vendors with clarity and commercial awareness
• Represent platform and infrastructure in leadership forums and communicate technical context in business terms

Requirements You Are

• Technically credible. You have built or scaled cloud infrastructure at meaningful scale, ideally on AWS. You can walk into a conversation on networking, observability, or distributed systems and add value without needing to write production code daily.
• Reliability-obsessed operator. You have run production systems where downtime is not a minor inconvenience. You have been on call, you have managed major incidents, and you have built the processes that make them less frequent and less painful over time.
• Delivery-focused leader. You have a track record of executing complex infrastructure programmes in high-stakes environments without dropping operational responsibilities along the way.
• People builder. You invest in your Engineering Managers as seriously as you invest in platform reliability. You assess talent honestly and know that the quality of your team three years from now is something you are shaping today.
• High-intensity systems background. You have operated in environments where scale, uptime, and speed of recovery are non-negotiable — fintech, ride-hailing, gaming, e-commerce, or similar. Financial technology experience is a strong plus.
• Clear communicator. You write and speak directly. You can brief the C-Suite on an incident, an infrastructure roadmap, or a platform decision without hiding behind process language.
