Job Description

Nexgen Electrical NZ Limited is an Auckland-based electrical services company providing residential and commercial electrical installation, maintenance, testing and repair services.

We are looking for an Electrical Engineering Technician to join our growing team. The successful applicant will work with our supervisors and electrical team on residential and commercial projects, carrying out electrical installation, testing, maintenance, fault finding and repair work.

Key responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain and repair electrical systems, equipment and components.
  • Carry out new electrical wiring for residential and commercial properties.
  • Install power points, switches, lighting, downlights and hardwired smoke alarms.
  • Install, upgrade and maintain distribution boards, including MCBs, RCDs and RCBOs.
  • Install heaters, rangehoods, bathroom exhaust fans and other electrical equipment.
  • Install and wire heat pump systems and associated electrical equipment.
  • Install and maintain EV chargers and solar electrical systems.
  • Install and replace stoves, ovens and associated electrical connections.
  • Diagnose and remedy electrical faults using appropriate testing equipment.
  • Carry out electrical testing including polarity, insulation resistance, earth continuity, bonding, loop impedance and prospective short-circuit testing.
  • Identify electrical problems using a range of electrical testing instruments.
  • Repair and replace electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures using hand and power tools.
  • Assist with installation and maintenance of electrical control systems.
  • Install data and communication cabling, including telephone and TV cabling.
  • Install and maintain CCTV and alarm systems.
  • Carry out electrical maintenance and fault-finding work on residential and commercial properties.
  • Carry out trenching for underground mains cables and sub-board wiring where required.
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed, testing and materials used.
  • Assist with electrical materials and stock management.
  • Read and follow electrical drawings, specifications, manufacturer instructions and supervisor directions.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Follow company health and safety procedures and relevant electrical requirements.

Skills and experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Around 2 years' relevant experience in electrical installation, maintenance and repair.
  • Good knowledge of electrical systems, equipment and components.
  • Experience with residential and commercial electrical work.
  • Must have experience in Solar system \& inverter installation
  • Experience with electrical testing and fault finding.
  • Knowledge of single-phase and three-phase electrical systems.
  • Experience with distribution boards, MCBs, RCDs and RCBOs.
  • Experience with heat pump/HVAC electrical installation is preferred.
  • Experience with solar systems and EV chargers is preferred.
  • Experience with CCTV, alarm and data cabling is preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to use electrical testing equipment safely and accurately.
  • Good problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Full NZ driver's licence.
  • Relevant EWRB registration, licence or authorisation required for the electrical work undertaken.
