About the Role
GEO Electrical Limited is seeking an experienced and technically capable Electrical Engineering Technician to join our Auckland-based team.
This is a full-time, permanent position for an individual with a strong practical understanding of electrical systems, equipment, installations and technical documentation. The successful applicant will work closely with electricians, engineers, project personnel, contractors and clients to assist with the planning, installation, testing, maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical systems across a variety of projects.
The role requires someone who can combine technical knowledge with practical problem-solving skills and who is comfortable working both independently and as part of a wider project team.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be responsible for duties including, but not limited to:
* Assisting with the planning, preparation and implementation of electrical installation and engineering work.
* Reviewing electrical plans, specifications, technical drawings and project documentation before work commences.
* Assisting with the preparation and interpretation of electrical drawings, layouts, diagrams and technical specifications.
* Determining appropriate electrical equipment, components, materials and technical requirements for projects.
* Assisting engineers and senior technical staff with electrical system design, installation planning and project coordination.
* Supporting the installation, commissioning, testing and maintenance of electrical systems, equipment and associated components.
* Carrying out electrical and electronic testing using appropriate testing and measuring instruments.
* Conducting inspections and technical checks to identify electrical faults, defects, irregularities or performance issues.
* Diagnosing faults in electrical equipment, circuits, control systems and associated components.
* Assisting with troubleshooting and recommending appropriate corrective actions where faults or technical issues are identified.
* Testing electrical installations and equipment to confirm satisfactory operation and performance.
* Recording test results, measurements, defects, corrective actions and other relevant technical information.
* Assisting with the commissioning of newly installed or modified electrical systems and equipment.
* Monitoring the performance and condition of electrical systems and identifying preventative maintenance requirements.
* Assisting with scheduled maintenance, repairs and upgrades to electrical systems and equipment.
* Supporting project teams with technical information and practical advice throughout installation and commissioning work.
* Preparing estimates and calculations relating to materials, equipment, labour requirements and technical project needs.
* Assisting with the selection and procurement of appropriate electrical equipment, components and materials.
* Liaising with suppliers and contractors regarding technical specifications, product requirements and equipment availability.
* Coordinating with electricians, engineers, construction personnel, subcontractors and other trades working on project sites.
* Checking completed work against drawings, specifications and project requirements.
* Identifying discrepancies between drawings, specifications and site conditions and reporting these to the appropriate project personnel.
* Assisting with modifications to electrical plans and technical documentation where site or project requirements change.
* Maintaining accurate technical records, maintenance records, inspection reports and project documentation.
* Assisting in preparing technical reports relating to electrical installations, equipment performance, faults and maintenance.
* Providing technical support during project installation, testing, commissioning and handover stages.
* Assisting with the investigation of equipment failures and recurring electrical faults.
* Monitoring electrical equipment and installations to help ensure safe and reliable operation.
* Ensuring tools, testing equipment and technical instruments are maintained appropriately and are available when required.
* Working in accordance with company procedures, project requirements and applicable health and safety requirements.
* Identifying electrical or workplace hazards and reporting or addressing these in accordance with company procedures.
* Participating in toolbox meetings, project briefings and technical discussions.
* Communicating professionally with clients, contractors, suppliers and other stakeholders.
* Supporting the wider GEO Electrical Limited team with other technical and project-related duties reasonably associated with the position.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
* At least three years of relevant work experience in electrical engineering, electrical systems, electrical installation, electrical maintenance or a closely related technical field; and
* A relevant qualification at Level 5 or higher, or an equivalent recognised overseas qualification.
Applicants should also have:
* Strong practical knowledge of electrical systems and equipment.
* Ability to understand and interpret electrical drawings, diagrams and technical specifications.
* Good fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
* Experience using electrical testing and measuring equipment.
* Good organisational and time-management skills.
* Ability to maintain accurate technical records and documentation.
* Strong attention to detail.
* Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, electricians, contractors and clients.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a project team.
* A strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
* Ability to work across different project or client locations within Auckland when required.
