As a member of the Translations Team, the Editorial Content Lead will lead editorial strategy and content development for Auslan90, ensuring high-quality, deaf-centric storytelling while maintaining rigorous media accountability standards. This role supports the creation from concept to production, coordinates the presentation team, and collaborates across departments to deliver program videos that meets objectives and audience needs.
About the role:
You will work collaboratively to deliver against each of the areas of accountability outlined below. The Editorial Content Lead has a shared responsibility for the delivery of Auslan based video content that supports the organisation’s externally funded projects to achieve its deliverables.
Main responsibilities of the role include:
Develop and execute editorial strategies, including defining content vision, establishing tone and style guidelines, and creating publication plans.
Apply attention to detail throughout all content creation and review processes.
Understand and work within the relevant parts of the organisation’s quality management systems.
Build productive relationships with cross-functional teams to enhance the success of the program, including identifying appropriate subject matter experts and/or community representatives when appropriate to support story and team development.
Contribute to project planning and scope development for Auslan-based video content and series, including estimations on time to complete work.
Communicate staffing and resourcing needs for Auslan90 productions to the Coordinator, including talent scheduling and access to the casual staff pool as required.
About you:
In your application, let us know if you have these key skills and experience:
Knowledge, skills, and ability to use a range of video editing platforms and systems (including but not limited to Adobe Creative Cloud programs – Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Lightroom and After Effects), including relevant multimedia platforms.
Knowledge of the Australian Deaf community’s linguistic and cultural needs.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across teams and with a wide range of stakeholders in implementing and coordinating the development of Auslan based video content.
Sound communication skills and an ability to collate and present information and recommendations.
Background in business, government, media/communications/journalism of some kind – especially to understand language of reporting and ability to read between the lines.
Critical assessment and reading skills.
Highly regarded:
Awareness of news media coverage, including how news sources use supporting material, footage, imagery to develop context for A90 reporting.
Relevant qualifications in video production or in Auslan.
Relevant experience in the use of Auslan for public presentation.
Knowledge of the Deaf and hard of hearing sector.
Fluency in Auslan and knowledge and understanding of the Deaf community, its language and culture.
