Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and experienced Driver specialising in waste removals to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating commercial vehicles, primarily 3.5 ton cage tippers to safely transport waste materials and ensure timely collection and disposal. This role requires excellent driving skills, mechanical knowledge, and the ability to communicate effectively with clients and team members. The position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment with a focus on health and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Operate various types of commercial vehicles, including flatbed lorries, ensuring compliance with road safety regulations.
- Collect waste materials from designated sites and transport them to disposal or recycling facilities.
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections and basic mechanical checks to maintain optimal operation.
- Assist with loading and unloading waste, ensuring secure placement during transit.
- Maintain accurate records of collections, deliveries, and vehicle maintenance logs.
- Communicate clearly with clients regarding collection schedules and any operational issues.
- Follow health and safety procedures diligently to minimise risks during waste removal activities.
- Ensure the cleanliness of the vehicle after each shift and report any damages or mechanical faults promptly.
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial driving, particularly with flatbed lorries or similar vehicles.
- Strong driving skills with a clean driving licence suitable for commercial vehicles (‘ driver’ qualification preferred).
- Previous experience in waste removal or logistics is advantageous.
- Mechanical knowledge to perform basic vehicle inspections and troubleshoot minor issues.
- Excellent communication skills for liaising with clients and team members effectively.
- Warehouse experience is beneficial for understanding material handling procedures.
- Ability to operate a flatbed lorry safely and efficiently under varying conditions.
- Organised approach to managing schedules, routes, and documentation efficiently.
