The Umbra Institute, an American study abroad institution based in Perugia, Italy, is looking for a Digital Communications \& Student Services Assistant to join our team on a temporary basis for a maternity leave replacement.
The position will primarily focus on digital communications, social media, website content, SEO, blogging, and the use of AI tools, with a smaller portion of the role dedicated to student services and administrative support.

Main ResponsibilitiesDigital Communications \& Marketing
- Manage and develop the Institute’s social media channels, including planning, creating, and publishing engaging content.
- Create, edit, and update content for the Institute’s website and blog.
- Contribute to the Institute’s SEO strategy, including keyword research, content optimization, and monitoring website performance.
- Develop written, visual, and multimedia content promoting the Institute, its academic programs, student experiences, events, and activities.
- Explore and effectively use AI tools and generative AI for content creation, research, digital marketing, and workflow optimization.
- Assist with newsletters, promotional materials, and other digital communications.
- Monitor social media and website analytics and use data to improve content and engagement.
- Maintain a consistent visual identity and tone across the Institute’s digital platforms.
- Collaborate with colleagues across different departments to gather information and develop content.
Student Services
As a secondary component of the position, the successful candidate will also provide support to the Student Services team, including:
- Assisting students with routine questions and requests.
- Supporting student activities, events, and other student-facing initiatives.
- Providing administrative and logistical assistance to the Student Services team.
- Assisting with general office operations and other tasks related to student support as needed.
Requirements
- Degree or relevant academic background in Communications, Marketing, Digital Media, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of social media platforms and digital communication.
- Good understanding of SEO and web content management.
- Excellent written and verbal English skills (at least B2; C1 preferred), as English is the primary language of communication at the Institute.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Familiarity with AI tools and generative AI applications and an interest in exploring new technologies.
- Good organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
- A flexible and proactive approach to working in a dynamic, international environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience managing professional or institutional social media accounts.
- Experience with WordPress or other CMS platforms.
- Familiarity with Google Analytics, Google Search Console, or similar digital analytics tools.
- Experience with Canva, Adobe Photoshop, or other graphic design software.
- Basic knowledge of photography, video editing, or other multimedia content creation.
- Previous experience in digital marketing, communications, education, or an international environment.
- Experience working with students or in a student-facing role.
