Job Title: Orchestra Development Director

Reports To: Director of Operations, Board of Directors

Status: Contract, 1-year

Commitment: Average of 5 hours per week over 12 months; hours vary with each program cycle

Compensation: Commensurate with experience, $5,000 total stipend for 12 months.

Position Summary

The Development Director leads the organization's fundraising, donor engagement, and development strategy to ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the Blue Ridge Orchestra. This position is responsible for cultivating relationships with individual donors, corporate sponsors, foundations, and government agencies while overseeing grant initiatives. The Development Director works closely with the Director of Operations, Board of Directors, musicians, volunteers, and community partners to advance the orchestra's mission through philanthropic support.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising \& Development

  • Identify, secure, and maintain corporate donations, concert sponsorships, and community partnerships.
  • Develop strategies for planned giving and future endowment creation
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors, including major gift prospects.
  • Research, write, and manage grant applications and reporting requirements if experienced

Donor Relations

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, patrons, volunteers, and community stakeholders.
  • Communicate and coordinate with the Director of Operations on new gifts and annual renewals.

Working Conditions
