Department: Engineering
Grade: io12
Classification: Exempt
EEO Category: Professional
Work Arrangement: Hybrid – remote + in-personJob Summary
===============
We're iostudio, and we're looking for a DevOps Systems Engineer like you. If you're excited about what comes next, join our team of smart, kind people who believe in making a difference.
The DevOps Systems Engineer will design, build, and maintain high-performance web applications across our PHP and JavaScript stacks — including Laravel, Drupal, and WordPress. This position develops B2C and B2B applications from small to enterprise scale, and partners with our Systems Operations team on the design, implementation, and testing of the AWS infrastructure those applications run on. This is a development role first, with a meaningful and recurring infrastructure-collaboration component. What You'll Do
==================
- Conceive, develop, and deploy quality web applications across Laravel, Drupal, and WordPress
- Partner with Systems Operations to design, stand up, and test LAMP and containerized environments in AWS, and to troubleshoot issues that span the application/infrastructure boundary
- Code design creations provided by the UX/UI team into functional products
- Guide conversations around the technical feasibility of UX/UI designs
- Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability
- Commit code using Git methodologies and best practices
- Create highly complex, customized applications in response to business needs
- Bring an operational lens to development — logging, observability, deployment safety, and environment parity — so applications are straightforward to run and support
- Research, track, and understand new web technologies; make recommendations for new policies and procedures to bring in-house
- Provide guidance and assistance to other team members
- Learn and abide by the operating policies and procedures of iostudio
- Represent iostudio in a professional manner with all client leadership, vendors, and staff
- Attend occasional team, project, and client meetings, including in-person meetings on the scheduled weekly in-office day
- Daily task assignments are provided by ClickUp with daily time reports submitted in Workamajig operating system
The above statements describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this classification. This is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties required of personnel so classified. What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of software development experience is ideal
- Evidence of web design/development-related coursework or portfolio
- Solid experience with typical software development life cycles and methodologies
- Master-level working knowledge of PHP
- Laravel experience: ability to build and maintain Laravel applications on version 10 and above
- Experience building and maintaining Drupal and WordPress sites
- Experience with advanced MySQL and PostgreSQL use cases
- Confidence in working with third-party APIs
- Proficient understanding of web markup, including HTML5, CSS3
- Basic understanding of CSS preprocessing languages such as SASS
- Proficiency with client-side scripting and JavaScript frameworks, including Vue.js
- Strong knowledge of Apache, NGINX, and Linux (Ubuntu)
- Hands-on AWS experience (compute, networking, IAM fundamentals, deployment)
- Systems administration / DevOps background: comfort with infrastructure-as-code, containerization (Docker), and CI/CD pipelines, with the ability to contribute to infrastructure design and testing rather than only consuming it
- Understanding of web accessibility
- Ability to produce technical documentation as it relates to all products
- Ability to work well in a team structure
- A passion for quality design, development, and a drive for innovation
- Knowledge of the principles of advertising and marketing
- Ability to take a concept from sketch or wireframe to final implementation
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Multitasking and problem-solving skills
- Analytical, organized, and proactive attitude
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and switch quickly and comfortably between projects as determined by supervisor, clients, or other circumstances
- Willingness and ability to flex to additional languages and frameworks as the team's stack evolves — this is not an expectation of day-one expertise, but a demonstrated capacity to ramp up and provide support if the team adopts new technologies such as TypeScript or Node.js
- Ability to qualify for a government security clearance as required by government contract
- Citizen of the United States of America, as required by government contract
