Job Description

Deputy Manager – Children's Residential Home (Mental Health)

Location: Congleton

Salary: £15.50 - £17.00 per hour + Time & 1/3 for weekends and waking nights + £70 sleep-in allowance

Realistic OTE: £40,000 - £44,000+ per annum

  • Hours: Approximately 160-165 hours per month

Sleep Rate: £70 per sleep

Service: Ofsted Registered Children's Home

Service Users: Young People aged 10-17 with complex mental health needs, including Autism, ADHD, self-harm presentations and suicide risk

Employment Type: Permanent | PAYE

Salary Breakdown

At the top rate of £17.00 per hour , weekend hours and waking nights are paid at Time + 1/3 (£22.67 per hour) .

Based on a typical Deputy Manager rota discussed by the service:

  • 54 standard hours per fortnight
  • 28 enhanced weekend / unsocial hours per fortnight
  • 2 sleep-ins per fortnight

This would equate to:

  • Standard Hours: £23,868 per annum
  • Enhanced Hours: £16,504 per annum
  • Sleep-Ins: £3,640 per annum

Indicative Annual Earnings: £44,012 per annum

This example is intended to demonstrate realistic earning potential and is based on an actual working pattern within the service. Actual earnings will vary depending on rota requirements, sleep-in frequency, weekend working and any additional overtime worked.

Overtime is available and paid in addition to the figures above.

The Opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced Deputy Manager to join their specialist children's residential service in Congleton.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Residential Support Worker, Team Leader or existing Deputy Manager looking to progress within a specialist therapeutic service supporting young people with complex mental health needs.

The provider specialises in supporting young people who may otherwise require inpatient mental health provision or who need a highly individualised therapeutic placement within the community.

The organisation operates a specialist model supported by an in-house multi-disciplinary mental health team, delivering bespoke care packages tailored to each young person's needs.

The Home

Large 8-bed children's residential home

Split into two separate living environments to create a smaller, more therapeutic setting

Currently supporting 4 young people

Operating with a maximum occupancy of 6 young people

Specialist mental health provision

Supported by an in-house multi-disciplinary team

Therapeutic and relationship-based approach to care

The home's structure allows young people to benefit from the resources and stability of a larger service whilst maintaining the feel and support of a smaller home environment.

Key Responsibilities

As Deputy Manager, you will support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day leadership and management of the home and assume responsibility in their absence.

You will be expected to have strong knowledge and practical experience in:

✅ Care Planning

✅ Case Management

✅ Staff Supervisions

✅ Actioning Regulation 44 Reports

✅ Risk Assessments

✅ Education Planning

✅ Working alongside Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDTs)

✅ Acting as Key Worker for young people

✅ Supporting safeguarding and behaviour management strategies

✅ Children's Homes Regulations, Quality Standards, SCCIF, Regulation 40 and Regulation 45

✅ Supporting Ofsted compliance and continuous improvement

Requirements

✔ Minimum 2 years' experience within an Ofsted Registered Children's Home

✔ Experience supporting young people with EBD, Autism, Mental Health needs or other complex presentations

✔ Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)

✔ Strong leadership experience within residential childcare

✔ Full UK Driving Licence

✔ Access to a vehicle

✔ Confidence in supporting compliance, safeguarding and operational management
