3. JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for clinic dental procedural /treatment set – up. Exercising and executing all Patient Safety
measures and infection control protocols at all times. Provide Dental Assistance to assigned Dental Physicians,
helps out with other dentist and / or Hygienists as time permits. Demonstrates professionalism at all times.
Keeps current with departmental Policies and procedures, national and international standards, and patient
safety regulations. Accountable for the weekly and monthly ordering and monitoring supplies, availability and
expiry dates. Responsible for the safe keeping and disposition of instrument. Ensure environmental safety of the
dental treatment room and the department at all times.
4. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Chair side dental assisting (four – Handed technique)
B. Grasp and recognition of dental instrumentation and materials
C. Chart and records treatment notes as directed. Excellent grasp of dental terminology and numbering conventions.
D. Maintains infection free in the dental treatment room, as per infection protocols; Requires knowledge of and ability to apply infection control procedures in all areas including clinic room and x – ray room.
E. Participates, conducts and reports findings to Senior Dental Assistant, to a monthly infection control rounds inspection.
F. Disinfects patient chair, cuspidor and any other parts or equipment that may be infectious to the patient.
G. Prepares, takes and process dental x -rays of all types. Requires knowledge of short cone paralleling and bisecting angle techniques. Understand concept of film processing and ability to understand computer and digital x – ray modalities
H. Exercises good customer service skills at all times, greets patients.
I. Maintain adequate stocks of clean instruments and supplies in the treatment room
J. Maintain Logs and Monitors the Monthly Nearly Expired Medications; Provides a copy to Head nurse
K. Responsible for open and / or used instruments disposition once the patient has left the treatment room.
L. Complies to the national and international standards
M. Demonstrates ability to perform minor clinical procedures under the direction of the dentist (alginate impressions, rubber dam application, suture removal, etc.)
N. Maintains and records daily patient statistics and submits to departmental secretary.
O. Participates in monthly departmental TQM Program, records and reports any found deficiencies
P. Ensures safety national rules and regulations for all instruments, medications in the assigned clinic are current, stored safely and in accordance to policy.
Q. Direct supervision for the disposal of hazardous materials and sharps in accordance with the guidelines of the center.
R. Maintenance of patient safety; Responds and assists in any life-threatening situation within the Dental
Department as required.
S. Performs other tasks and duties within the scope of the knowledge, skills, and experience required for the
job, as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
T. Keeps current with the center mandatory annual training: Fire Safety, CPR, Disaster
U. Participates in the development of the departmental Policies and Procedures
V. Other tasks as assigned as per ability and capability.
5. EDUCATIONAL LICENSURE:
A. Graduate from a governmental accredited Nursing College or University
B. KSA, MOH license
C. Licensure certificate issued by accreditation board agencies.
6. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
A. Two years working experience in private or public hospital – dental practice setting
B. Experience and practice must be current and within (6) six months of application.
C. Previous KSA dental work experience an asset.
7. SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE:
A. Previous relevant dental working experiences an asset.
B. Able and capable to adjust to group practice environment
C. Team Building skills, Good English language skills a must, Customer Focus skills a must
D. Ability to deal positively and function in a multiculturalism environment
E. Ability to converse with all ages
F. Computer literacy is essential
G. Basic Life Support certification is required
8. PHYSICAL EFFORT REQUIRED:
Must be in good physical condition and fit to perform all related duties.
9. HOURS/SHIFT OR WORK:
Staff must be available to work one or all shifts in department. Specific job assignments may require day, evening, weekend or holiday hours.
