Database Administrator (DBA) – AWS [Hybrid - Porto, Portugal]

We are looking for an experienced Database Administrator to join an international technology environment, supporting mission-critical database services and contributing to projects across multiple countries.

This is a hands-on role for someone with strong expertise in AWS database technologies, performance optimization and production support. You will work closely with international teams and have the opportunity to contribute to current and future technology decisions.

Location: Porto, Portugal – Hybrid (3 days/week at the office)

International environment – English is the working language

Tasks

• Provide end-to-end support for the database layer of multiple mission-critical services.
• Install, configure and administer database environments based on AWS RDS, Aurora PostgreSQL and MySQL.
• Support and administer Amazon Redshift environments.
• Monitor and improve database performance, availability and reliability.
• Perform performance tuning and query optimization.
• Manage and optimize database workloads.
• Troubleshoot database incidents and performance issues in production environments.
• Participate in international projects, collaborating with technical teams and stakeholders across different countries.
• Contribute to technical discussions and decisions regarding current and future database technologies.
• Share knowledge and technical experience with other team members.
• Participate in the team's shift rotation and on-call schedule.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience as a Database Administrator, preferably supporting mission-critical or production environments.
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS RDS.
• Strong experience with Aurora PostgreSQL and/or MySQL.
• Experience with Amazon Redshift.
• Solid knowledge of database installation and configuration.
• Strong experience with performance tuning and query optimization.
• Experience with workload management.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage priorities with minimal supervision.
• Strong communication skills and ability to interact effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in international and multidisciplinary teams.
• Availability to work within a shift-based schedule, with the team providing 10 hours of daily coverage, 5 days a week.
• Availability to participate in an on-call rotation, approximately one week per month.
• Upper-intermediate English (B2) or higher, both written and spoken, with confidence to work daily in an international environment.

Education

• Master's degree in Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent relevant professional experience.
