Company: UST

Title: Data Center Technical Program Manager

UST is seeking an experienced Technical Program Manager (TPM) to lead the planning, deployment, and operational management of a Compute & AI Server Pre-Production Test Lab hosted within a multi-megawatt hyperscale colocation (Colo) data center. This role is responsible for delivering a world-class engineering lab that enables hardware qualification, firmware validation, system integration, and pre-production testing for next-generation cloud infrastructure.

The TPM will own the complete lifecycle of the Colo facility—from site selection and design through commissioning, operational readiness, and ongoing facility management throughout the lease term. This highly cross-functional role requires close collaboration with engineering, facilities, supply chain, logistics, colocation providers, OEMs, networking, security, and executive leadership to ensure reliable, scalable, and cost-effective lab operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end planning, deployment, commissioning, and operational management of a Compute & AI Server Pre-Production Test Lab within a multi-megawatt hyperscale colocation data center.

  • Manage data center site selection, technical due diligence, vendor evaluation, facility readiness, and capacity planning for new and existing Colo sites.

  • Drive lab facility ramp-up, including commissioning, infrastructure deployment, operational readiness, and transition from the colocation provider to engineering operations.

  • Plan and oversee lab infrastructure design and implementation, including power distribution, cooling systems, structured cabling, networking, rack layouts, physical security, access control, environmental monitoring, and safety systems.

  • Coordinate rack & stack activities, server deployment, cabling, asset tracking, firmware readiness, infrastructure validation, and engineering lab bring-up.

  • Lead deployment of Compute, AI, GPU, HPC, storage, and networking infrastructure supporting pre-production validation and engineering programs.

  • Manage procurement coordination, shipment planning, customs support, inventory management, hardware receiving, asset lifecycle tracking, and logistics for global hardware deliveries.

  • Collaborate with engineering, facilities, supply chain, logistics, colocation providers, OEMs, ISPs, construction vendors, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.

  • Develop and manage project plans, schedules, budgets, resource allocation, risks, dependencies, and executive status reporting.

  • Establish operational processes, SOPs, governance models, KPIs, SLAs, and reporting mechanisms to support reliable multi-year lab operations.

  • Plan infrastructure expansions, technology refreshes, capacity upgrades, and lifecycle management to support evolving engineering requirements.

  • Drive incident management, change management, preventive maintenance, operational readiness, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Ensure compliance with data center standards, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), physical security policies, fire protection requirements, and operational best practices.

  • Manage relationships with colocation providers, vendors, suppliers, contractors, and service providers to ensure adherence to contractual obligations, project timelines, and service-level agreements.

Required Skills:

  • 10+ years of experience in Technical Program Management, Data Center Infrastructure, Engineering Operations, Colocation Program Management, or a related field.

  • Proven experience delivering hyperscale data center, engineering lab, or colocation infrastructure projects from planning through operational handover.

  • Strong understanding of hyperscale data center infrastructure, colocation environments, and engineering lab operations.

  • Hands-on knowledge of critical power infrastructure (UPS, Generators, PDUs, Busways), cooling systems (CRAC/CRAH, Chillers, Liquid Cooling), structured cabling, rack & stack operations, networking infrastructure, and physical security systems.

  • Experience managing Compute, AI, GPU, HPC, cloud infrastructure, or large-scale server deployment programs.

  • Experience with data center commissioning, operational readiness, capacity planning, and infrastructure lifecycle management.

  • Strong project planning, budgeting, risk management, stakeholder management, vendor management, and executive communication skills.

  • Experience using Microsoft Project, Jira, Azure DevOps, ServiceNow, Smartsheet, Power BI, or similar project and operational management tools.

  • Strong leadership, analytical thinking, negotiation, decision-making, and problem-solving capabilities.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience supporting pre-production engineering labs, server validation environments, firmware development, hardware qualification, or platform engineering programs.

  • Knowledge of data center standards and best practices, including Uptime Institute Tier Standards, TIA-942, ASHRAE, NFPA, ITIL, and ISO 27001.

  • Familiarity with Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM), asset management systems, monitoring platforms, and capacity planning tools.

  • Experience supporting hyperscale cloud providers such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, Meta, Oracle Cloud, or similar environments.

  • Ability to manage multiple complex programs simultaneously in a fast-paced, globally distributed environment.

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (approximately 20–40%) to support site selection, facility deployment, operational reviews, and infrastructure expansion.

  • Ability to support critical deployment activities, maintenance windows, and occasional after-hours operations.

Qualification:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Information Technology, or a related engineering discipline.

  • PMP, PgMP, PRINCE2, Agile, Scrum Master, or equivalent Project Management certification is preferred.

  • Data center, cloud infrastructure, or facility management certifications are considered an advantage.

  • Experience supporting hyperscale cloud infrastructure and large-scale engineering lab operations is highly desirable.
