Join our friendly team at Cafe Yasuragi and Shoko — a modern Japanese cafe and takeaway concept at Millenia Walk serving Japanese comfort food, rice bowls, pastas, soups, coffee, matcha, desserts and drinks in a cosy environment.

We are looking for a responsible, hardworking and passionate Commis Chef to support our kitchen operations. This role is suitable for candidates who enjoy cooking, are willing to learn, and can work well in a fast-paced team environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and cooking of food items under the supervision of senior chefs
  • Prepare ingredients and mise en place for assigned sections
  • Follow standard recipes, portioning and presentation guidelines to maintain consistency
  • Support daily kitchen operations before, during and after service
  • Ensure full awareness of menu items, recipes, methods of production and presentation standards
  • Check and ensure adequate preparation of ingredients, equipment, inventory and supplies for smooth daily operations
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of workstations, kitchen equipment and storage areas
  • Adhere to food safety, hygiene and sanitation standards at all times
  • Support the kitchen team during busy service periods
  • Assist with receiving, storing and checking ingredients when required
  • Perform other ad-hoc kitchen duties as assigned

Salary

Full-Time

$2,200–$3,200 per month, depending on experience

Part-Time

$12–$15 per hour, depending on experience

Working Hours

Full-Time

  • 45 hours per week
  • Rotating shifts including weekends and public holidays

Part-Time

  • Flexible scheduling
  • Up to 35 hours per week

Requirements

  • Food Safety and Hygiene Level 1 certification is mandatory
  • Basic culinary training or relevant kitchen experience preferred
  • Passion for cooking and willingness to learn
  • Good understanding of food hygiene and safety practices
  • Able to follow recipes, SOPs and instructions closely
  • Able to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Team player with good communication skills
  • Physically fit and able to stand for long periods
  • Able to work shifts, weekends and public holidays
  • Positive and responsible working attitude

Preferred

  • Prior experience in cafe, restaurant or central kitchen operations
  • Experience with Japanese food preparation, rice bowls, pasta, soups or cafe-style food
  • Able to work independently after training
  • Able to support both dine-in and takeaway kitchen operations
  • Openness to work in front-of-house if there is an urgent need
  • Willingness to learn multiple kitchen stations
