The Role:

Counties Manukau District is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Clinical Specialty Nurse Bowel Screening (CSN-BS) to join our dedicated Bowel Screening Programme team. This permanent role will be based at Manukau Health Park.

This pivotal role provides specialist clinical nursing expertise, leadership, and coordination across the Bowel Screening pathway supporting participants who have received a positive screening test result to access timely follow-up investigations, primarily colonoscopy.

You will ensure all participants are assessed, supported, and managed within the Bowel Screening Quality Framework and National Quality Standards, delivering safe, effective, and culturally responsive care that promotes early detection and improved bowel health outcomes for our community.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Leadership and Coordination

• Provide expert clinical leadership and guidance across the Bowel Screening Programme.
• Monitor all positive screening test results and ensure referrals for colonoscopy occur within national timeframes (10 working days).
• Follow up with participants, general practices, and service providers to ensure seamless coordination of care.
• Support participants and their whaanau/families through assessment, education, and preparation for colonoscopy or alternative diagnostic procedures.
• Liaise with clinical leads, endoscopy, radiology, and laboratory teams to ensure timely and appropriate investigations.
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation within the National Bowel Screening Information System (BSR).
• Attend and contribute to Multidisciplinary Meetings (MDMs).

Clinical Practice

• Deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing care that meets professional, ethical, and legal standards.
• Provide assessment, counselling, education, and support for participants undergoing further investigation.
• Apply advanced nursing knowledge and critical reasoning to achieve optimal participant outcomes.
• Uphold the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, ensuring culturally safe and equitable care.
• Engage in reflective practice and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Communication and Collaboration

• Foster effective communication across primary, secondary, and community health teams.
• Advocate for participants and their whaanau/families to ensure their needs are met in a culturally responsive and person-centred manner.
• Collaborate with the Bowel Screening Programme team, general practitioners, and community partners to promote integrated care and service excellence.

About You:

• NZ Registered Nurse with current Practicing Certificate
• Minimum of three years experience in gastroenterology / surgical and/or oncology, in NZ (Post registration)
• Post graduate qualification completed or in progress or prepared to undertake post graduate studies relevant to specialty practice
• Experience working with Pacific, Maaori and multicultural communities
