The NZ Familial Gastrointestinal Cancer Service (NZFGCS) is a national service, providing assessment, diagnosis, management advice, and care for individuals and families with a familial predisposition to gastrointestinal cancers. The national office is based in Auckland (hosted by Te Toka Tumai) with additional offices in Wellington and Christchurch.

In this role, you will provide clinical administrator support that contributes to the smooth management of the patient caseload. This is an excellent opportunity for an initiative-taking, enthusiastic, and experienced individual to provide day-to-day administrative support, including referral processing, mail management, clinical transcription, and leave cover.

The role requires engaging with clinical staff and patients in a sensitive and empathetic manner, ensuring professional and supportive communication at all times.

About the Team/Service

The NZFGCS provides a national service with regional offices in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch, delivered by a multidisciplinary clinical team of Family History Assessors, Gastroenterologists, and Colorectal Surgeons. The team:

  • Identifies, diagnoses, assesses, and manages people with familial gastrointestinal (GI) cancer syndromes
  • Provides education, information, and support to families
  • Offers medical management advice and a colonoscopy surveillance referral programme

.About you

Given the importance of this role, you will have:

  • Experience: At least 2 years in healthcare administration, preferably in a hospital setting for a clinical service.
  • Technical Skills: Competence in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel (advanced Outlook and Word skills required)
  • Medical Knowledge: Basic understanding of medical terminology
  • Attributes: Professional, collaborative, hardworking, and cheerful

Key competencies:

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Experience working directly with patient information
  • Familiarity with hospital applications used to manage patient information
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Empathetic, courteous, and confident when interacting with patients

Desirable:

  • Experience using Progeny software (preferred)
