(Due to being a linehaul role – will be required to work across New Zealand regions, including Wellington, Northland, West Coast, Tasman, Hawke’s Bay, Southland, Nelson, Gisborne, Manawatu-Whanganui, Chatham Islands, Marlborough, Waikato, Otago, Bay of Plenty, Auckland, and Taranaki)

Hours of Work: Guaranteed minimum 30 hours per week, up to 40 hours depending on operational requirements. (rostered shifts including nights, weekends, and public holidays)
Pay Rate: $30.00 – $35.00 per hour (depending on experience)

Purpose of the Position

The Class 5 Floating Linehaul Truck Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of freight between regional and metro destinations across New Zealand. The role involves alternating day and night shifts, operating heavy linehaul vehicles, and ensuring compliance with all road transport regulations.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

• Drive heavy trucks to transport goods between depots, distribution centres, and client locations.
• Plan delivery routes and schedules to ensure timely and efficient freight movements.
• Safely load, secure, and unload freight in accordance with company and customer requirements.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance needs promptly.
• Maintain accurate records including logbooks, delivery dockets, and compliance documentation.
• Operate vehicles in accordance with the Land Transport Act, company policies, and Health & Safety procedures.
• Adhere to all road user and fatigue management regulations.
• Deliver goods in a timely manner while ensuring care and safety of cargo.
• Communicate effectively with dispatchers, Mainfreight coordinators, and clients to ensure efficient delivery schedules.
• Provide professional, courteous customer service and represent Tufang Transport Ltd and Mainfreight to a high standard.
• Follow Health and Safety procedures and report hazards, incidents, and vehicle defects.
• Support continuous improvement in operational safety, maintenance, and delivery efficiency.

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications Required

• Hold a current New Zealand Class 5 Driver Licence, or an overseas equivalent heavy vehicle licence.
• Minimum 1 year of experience as a linehaul or heavy truck driver OR Any Level 3 and above qualification.
• Flexibility to work across different shifts (day, night, weekends, and public holidays).
• Willingness to obtain additional NZ qualifications: Class 8, 2.1, 3, 9, and Dangerous Goods Licence (DGLQ).
• High level of professionalism, reliability, and attention to detail.
• Sound communication skills and customer-service orientation.
• Applicants must be physically capable of safely loading, securing and unloading freight, climbing in and out of heavy vehicles, and undertaking manual handling tasks associated with the role
• Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and criminal record check.
