Carpenter – Fire Door Maintenance Specialist

What’s the opportunity? (Role)
We are currently seeking an ambitious, self-motivated, hard-working Carpenter to join the McKeon Group team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and replacement of fire doors and associated components to ensure full compliance with fire safety regulations and building standards. The role operates within a professional, often occupied environment, with a strong emphasis on compliance, accurate reporting, and use of digital systems.
Roles \& Responsibilities:
Fire Door Works
- Carry out detailed fire door inspections in accordance with current fire safety regulations and standards
- Complete remedial works to fire doors including adjustment, repair, and replacement of certified components
- Install and replace certified fire door sets including frames, ironmongery, intumescent seals, glazing, and door closers
- Ensure all works maintain the fire integrity and certification of the door set
- Accurately label, reference, and record fire doors and associated works
Compliance, Reporting \& IT Systems
- Record inspections, defects, and remedial actions accurately using digital devices
- Update job status, inspection results, and compliance information on CAFM systems
- Upload photographs, reports, and supporting documentation in line with company procedures
- Maintain accurate records to support audits, statutory compliance, and client reporting
- Highlight non-compliance issues and recommend corrective actions through appropriate channels
Site \& Client Interaction
- Work professionally in occupied buildings with minimal disruption
- Communicate effectively with site managers, facilities teams, and clients
- Represent the company to a high professional standard in appearance, conduct, and workmanship
Health \& Safety
- Comply fully with company health \& safety policies and site-specific procedures
- Use tools, equipment, and materials safely and correctly
- Participate in risk assessments and follow approved safe systems of work

Skills / Experience / Qualifications Required:
- Trade-qualified carpenter with demonstrable experience in fire door maintenance and installation
- Sound knowledge of fire door components, tolerances, and certification requirements
- IT proficient, with experience using mobile devices, tablets, or job management software
- Ability to complete digital records, reports, and inspections accurately
- Experience working in professional, commercial, or regulated environments
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and compliance
Desired But Not Essential:
- Recognised fire door training or certification (e.g. BM TRADA, FIRAS, or equivalent)
- Working knowledge of CAFM systems (e.g. Planon, Maximo, Concept, Archibus, or similar)
- Experience carrying out fire door inspection surveys
- Knowledge of passive fire protection systems
- Valid Safe Pass / CSCS (or equivalent)
- Own tools desirable
