Job Description

About Lavi Construction

Lavi Construction is a quality-focused builder delivering high-end residential custom homes, island/lakefront cottages, and select commercial projects across Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. We pride ourselves on fine craftsmanship, site safety, and a strong crew culture.

Role Overview

We are looking for a driven, reliable Apprentice Carpenter to join our field crew. In this role, you will work directly alongside experienced Journeyman Carpenters, learning all aspects of modern carpentry, from foundational framing to fine finish work. If you have a strong work ethic, a passion for building things with your hands, and a desire to build a career in the trades, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work Site Preparation: Set up tools, materials, staging, and safety equipment at the start of each day; maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Tool & Material Handling: Measure, cut, prep, and haul lumber, sheet goods, and building supplies as directed by senior carpenters.
  • Framing & Construction Support: Assist with layout, wall framing, roof trusses, subflooring, exterior sheathings, and concrete formwork.
  • Finish Carpentry Assistance: Aid in installing doors, windows, trim, cabinetry, hardware, and siding.
  • Tool Operation: Learn and safely operate hand tools, power tools (miter saws, circular saws, nail guns), and specialized machinery.
  • Code & Safety Adherence: Follow job site safety rules, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines, and local building codes at all times.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. Prior construction experience, vocational trade school training, or helper experience is a plus, but entry-level applicants with the right attitude are encouraged to apply.
  • Physical Capability: Ability to stand, bend, lift up to 50–80 lbs regularly, work at heights on ladders/scaffolding, and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Skills: Basic understanding of math (fractional measurements, basic geometry) and ability to read a standard tape measure accurately.
  • Reliability: Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and a history of punctual attendance.
  • Tools: Basic hand tools and belt (hammer, tape measure, speed square, utility knife, carpenter pencils) or willingness to acquire them upon hire.
  • Mindset: Strong desire to learn, follow instructions, ask questions, and take pride in quality workmanship.

What We Offer

  • Competitive Pay: Starting wage based on experience, with regular wage increases tied to skill development.
  • Paid On-the-Job Training: Direct mentorship from master craftsmen and support toward official Apprenticeship Certification/Journeyman status.
  • Gear Allowance: Annual tool/boot stipend or allowance program.

Pay: $18.00-$25.00 per hour
