The base salary will be $66,350 - $94,700 per annum. Starting salary will be aligned with the successful candidate’s experience, skills, and demonstrated qualifications.

About Us

The Western Advancement division plays a leading role in strengthening awareness of and support for the University’s mission and goals by leading alumni relations and fundraising efforts across campus and beyond. All departments within the Division build enduring alumni and public trust through understanding and support for Western University in a coordinated campus-wide effort that results in the engagement and funding needed to make an impact. There are 3 departments within the Division – Departments of Development, Alumni Relations and Advancement Operations.

An integral part of Advancement Operations, the Technology Services team is responsible for the management of systems and information that support our priority fundraising and alumni engagement activities. This unit ensures the integrity of our information resources, the dependability of our systems and provides comprehensive technology services to Western Advancement.

Responsibilities

The Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst will be a key member of the Advancement Operations team, responsible for enabling and supporting data-informed decision-making across fundraising, alumni engagement and operations within Western Advancement. The role will transform complex end-user business requirements into meaningful insights, reporting, and visualizations that support strategic planning, campaign effectiveness, and donor and alumni engagement. By working with end-users across the division and BI developers, the role will be responsible for delivering reliable, accessible, and actionable business intelligence in the form of reports and dashboards to enhance the University’s ability to advance its fundraising goals and strengthen relationships with its alumni community.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Undergraduate Degree with a major in Computer Science, Data Science, Business or related field
  • Project Management Certification is preferred

Experience:

  • 3 years’ hands-on experience in Business Intelligence applications (MS Power BI, Tableau)
  • Experience in data integration (ETL/ELT) and data warehousing techniques
  • Experience with data modelling and reporting
  • Preferred:
    • Experience with MS Power BI, Power BI Reporting
    • Experience writing complex queries, join, subqueries, function store procedure in MS SQL
    • Experience validating data accuracy and resolving data inconsistencies
    • Experience working with data governance, privacy and security frameworks
    • Experience analyzing fundraising and advancement data

Knowledge, Skills \& Abilities:

  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills with an ability to translate complex data into clear, compelling narratives to communicate insight and support data-driven decisions
  • Critical thinking and discernment to assess and scope areas for process improvement and an ability to offer creative solutions
  • Ability to understand team members’ needs and expectations and collaborate to satisfy expectations and data requirements
  • Knowledge and experience with Big Data techniques
  • Knowledge and experience with AI application for business intelligence in Fundraising
  • Solid understanding of advancement business metrics, strategies and performance measurements
  • Strong communication skills with an ability to explain insights clearly
  • Familiarity with business process management principles
  • Ability to work with CRMs and data warehouses with an understanding of data development lifecycles (SQL, ETL, warehouses, etc.)
  • Familiarity with data models and how systems integrate with one another and an ability to develop business maps, use cases, user stories and data flow diagrams
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Adaptability and learning agility, with an ability to quickly learn tools, datasets, and business domains
  • Dedicated to ongoing development, including staying abreast of new BI techniques and emerging technologies and their application in fundraising
  • Advanced skills in data analysis and interpretation, data profiling and validation
  • Ability to create and maintain high quality and well-structured technical and user documentation and deliver instructor-led training session if required
  • Exceptional organizational skills, including managing multiple competing priorities and projects, with an ability to adapt quickly to emerging priorities
  • Strong statistical literacy, with ability to apply statistical concepts, interpret, validate and communicate data trends, distribution, and relationships to support informed decision-making
  • Business-oriented mindset, with an ability to prioritize work based on business impact and thinking in terms of outcomes and not just metrics
