Salary: From $94,439 plus Superannuation

Position Brief -Building Compliance Officer

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Building Compliance Officer to join our Building Compliance Team in a permanent, full-time capacity.

This is a diverse and rewarding role that plays an important part in supporting safe, compliant and sustainable development across the City. You will be responsible for investigating potential breaches, assessing compliance and taking appropriate enforcement action, while working closely with residents, industry professionals, developers and government agencies.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys a varied role combining inspections, investigation, stakeholder engagement, research, reporting and regulatory enforcement.

What you’ll be doing:

Conducting inspections and investigations to assess compliance with building and development legislation.

Engaging with residents, building certifiers, developers, and government agencies to ensure clear communication of regulations.

Researching and interpreting legislation, policies, and records to provide informed recommendations.

Preparing detailed reports and correspondence, ensuring compliance with business processes.

Taking enforcement action when required to uphold legislative requirements and the City when deemed appropriate.

What We’re Looking For:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Building Surveying, or equivalent relevant industry experience.

A strong understanding of statutory compliance, development approvals and regulatory enforcement procedures.

Exceptional communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to confidently engage with a broad range of stakeholders.

Knowledge of the Planning Act, Building Act and Building Code of Australia.

Experience in building compliance, building surveying or another relevant regulatory field. Additional experience in regulatory enforcement will be highly regarded.

Excellent written communication, documentation and report-writing skills, with strong attention to detail.

The ability to research, interpret and apply legislation, policies and technical information.

Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise and effectively manage multiple investigations and competing deadlines.

A positive and energetic outlook, with a genuine interest in working collaboratively as part of a team.

A current unrestricted Class C Driver’s Licence.

A WHS White Card, or willingness to obtain one prior to commencement.
