The Role - BIM Technician
Reporting to the BIM Lead, the role of the BIM Technician is to support the BIM team in the development, coordination, and maintenance of BIM models and project documentation. The BIM Technician will assist with the production of 3D models, construction drawings, and digital project deliverables while ensuring compliance with company BIM standards and client requirements. The role offers an excellent opportunity to develop technical and BIM skills within a fast-paced engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and update 3D BIM models from engineering mark-ups, sketches, and design information.
Produce 2D drawings, layouts, sections, elevations, and detailed construction drawings from BIM models.
Assist in the modelling of piping, supports, equipment, ductwork, and other building services as required.
Maintain model accuracy and ensure project information is updated in accordance with company standards.
Generate drawing packages and project deliverables for review by BIM Engineers and BIM Leads.
Perform model checks to ensure consistency, completeness, and compliance with project requirements.
Participate in BIM coordination activities and assist with clash detection exercises.
Follow document management and revision control procedures.
Maintain organised project files and BIM documentation.
Support the BIM team in preparing reports, schedules, and model progress updates.
Assist with the incorporation of site survey information and point cloud data into project models.
Liaise with project team members to ensure the timely delivery of BIM outputs.
Support construction teams by providing requested model information and drawing updates.
Assist in resolving model-related issues identified during project reviews.
Develop and maintain a good understanding of BIM standards, workflows, and industry best practices.
Be proactive in identifying opportunities to improve modelling efficiency and project delivery.
Person Specification
Education, Training \& Experience
Qualification in BIM Technology, Engineering Technology, Building Services, CAD Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
1+ years relevant experience in a BIM, CAD, or engineering environment.
Previous experience in construction, engineering, manufacturing, or building services projects would be advantageous.
Experience applying some or all of the following software technologies is preferable:
Autodesk Revit
AutoCAD 2D
Navisworks
Plant3D
BIM 360 / Autodesk Construction Cloud
Bluebeam Revu
Microsoft Office Suite
Cadworx (training can be provided)
