Job Description

Architect / Architectural Partner

Building a New Midlands Architectural Practice — Remote / Flexible

Amoo Architecture is a newly established Midlands architectural practice being built from the ground up.

We are starting with a focused residential offering — extensions, loft conversions, alterations and smaller residential projects — while developing relationships with homeowners, builders, developers, agents and other professionals across the Midlands.

Our longer-term ambition is to grow into an established practice delivering residential development schemes, multi-unit housing and, eventually, projects across wider sectors.

We are now looking for one qualified architect or highly experienced architectural assistant to become involved at this early stage and help build the practice.

The opportunity

This is not a conventional salaried position.

We are looking for someone interested in contributing to the development of a new practice, with the potential for a genuine long-term partnership and ownership arrangement.

The successful person will provide architectural and technical oversight across projects, including:

  • Reviewing drawing packages before issue to clients or local authorities
  • Providing professional and technical input
  • Supporting planning and Building Regulations submissions
  • Advising on UK planning and technical requirements
  • Helping establish drawing, documentation and quality standards
  • Working alongside the Director and architectural assistant on project delivery
  • Contributing to the development of the practice as it grows

We are open to speaking with early-career architects, experienced practitioners, semi-retired or retired architects who remain interested in professional work, and exceptionally experienced architectural assistants with strong practical knowledge of UK residential planning and Building Regulations.

What is already in place

The practice infrastructure and organisational overheads are currently funded by the Director, including:

  • Remote working infrastructure
  • Individual professional Google Workspace accounts
  • Google Drive / cloud project storage
  • ArchiCAD Collaborate floating licence
  • Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance
  • Active business development and project pipeline development

The intention is for the team to focus on developing and delivering projects, rather than having to establish the infrastructure themselves.

Working arrangement

  • Flexible, remote working
  • Project-by-project involvement initially
  • Suitable for someone alongside existing professional commitments
  • No conventional full-time salaried position at this stage
  • Opportunity for the working arrangement to develop as the practice grows

Remuneration \& partnership

Project income will determine available remuneration at this stage, with contributors receiving an agreed share based on their involvement in individual projects.

Longer-term partnership and ownership arrangements are open for discussion with the right individual.

This opportunity is therefore particularly suited to someone who sees value in helping build an organisation from an early stage, rather than looking solely for an immediate fixed salary.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Qualified as an architect, or exceptionally experienced as an architectural assistant
  • Confident with UK residential planning and Building Regulations
  • Comfortable reviewing and quality-checking drawing packages
  • Able to work independently within a remote environment
  • Interested in residential architecture and smaller development projects
  • Interested in contributing to the growth of a new practice
  • Open to discussing a longer-term partnership

About Amoo Architecture

Amoo Architecture is deliberately starting small.

The immediate focus is residential work. The ambition is much larger.

We want to build a practice capable of progressing from individual residential projects into larger development schemes, multi-unit housing and eventually wider sectors.

Those who become involved at this stage will have the opportunity to contribute to how the practice operates, the standards it establishes, the work it undertakes and potentially its future ownership structure.

Interested?

If this opportunity interests you, please apply with a short introduction outlining:

  • Your architectural background and experience
  • Your current professional position
  • Your experience with residential planning and Building Regulations
  • What you would be looking for from a potential partnership

We would be pleased to have an informal conversation.

Benefits:

  • Flexitime
  • Profit sharing
  • Work from home

Work Location: Remote
