Job Purpose
As an Academic Applications Analyst, you will be responsible for planning and managing the instructional resources, technology solutions, and support services to meet the academic computing services objectives, as well as providing the University of Sharjah community with the means to apply technology to academic and administrative challenges and ensuring ongoing support for effective and efficient data and process operations.
Main accountabilities & expectations
Plan and manage the instructional Technologies and services including the online learning management system.
Administer and maintain the LMS (Blackboard) as well as other related instructional technologies and services.
Advise the Head of Academic Computing Section on adopting and implementing instructional technologies, as well as explore new technologies to cater to the needs of the learning environment.
Develop and deliver workshops, training sessions, manuals and guidelines on the use of appropriate learning technologies.
Assist in the development of policies and procedures and ensure their implementation and enforcement.
Manage and supervise the operations, services and support within the scope of the unit.
Follow up with the university system\database administrators to ensure proper and regular backups of the systems are taken.
Perform administration responsibilities including installation, upgrades, updates, tuning, configuration, archiving, troubleshooting, documenting system problems\bugs.
Integrate LMS Blackboard with other systems through developed solutions or through building blocks.
Keep-up-to-date with new developments and advancements in the market in order to suggest suitable solutions and advancements at the university and serve users better.
Prepare any related reports, analysis, and statistics when requested by the line manager.
Complete any other job-related tasks as assigned by line manager within the expected time limit.
Required Skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to prepare professional documents, in both Arabic and English.
Excellent customer service skills.
Demonstrate a good understanding of operating the required software/hardware.
Experience in system development and application support.
Strong functional knowledge on any of the areas of higher education in Finance/Human Resources/student/ operations utilizing Ellucian Banner ERP/administrative systems.
Solid background in PL/SQL, and SQL with strong emphasis on Analysis and coding through the use of templates, common packages and object libraries.
Strong Background in Argos/ crystal/ discoverer reporting tools.
Knowledge in Extensibility tool and ETHOS by Ellucian, Java, Groovy and Grails Web Application development and/or equivalent Web Application development are a plus.
Able to understand the meaning of common error messages and explain them to users in simple language.
Ability to organise and prioritise multiple tasks and produce reports under strict guidelines.

Desirable Requirements
Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or any related discipline.
2-4 years of UAE experience in similar role preferably in higher education institutions.
Priority is to UAE Nationals.
