Faculty of Environmental Earth Science, Hokkaido University, invites applications for the following
academic position.

Earth Science (The specific group will be determined in consideration of the wishes and research
field of the successful applicant from four groups: Group of Conservation on Natural Environments,
Group of Environmental Geography, Group of Environmental Adaptation Science, and Group of
Practical and Earth Sciences for Environment)
(Scope of change) Location as determined by the University
Education responsibilities:
(Immediately after hiring) Course in Global Environmental Management, Division of Environmental
Science Development, Graduate School of Environmental Science
(Scope of change) Duties as determined by the University
Research field:
Environmental science in a broad sense, including disciplines that can contribute to understanding
and solving environmental problems (e.g., ecology, geography, earth science, chemistry,
engineering, biology, agriculture, health science, medicine, and social science)
Qualifications:
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree at the time of appointment and have an outstanding
research record and leadership in the above-mentioned field of specialization. In addition,
candidates should possess excellent research achievements and leadership in the specified field,
and be capable of contributing to student education and research supervision in the course listed
under " Education Responsibilities." Please note that instruction and research guidance in the
Course in Global Environmental Management are conducted in English; therefore, applicants must
possess sufficient English proficiency.
Term of Appointment:
No fixed term.
Probationary period:
Three months from the date of appointment.
Working hours:
A discretionary labor system for professional work (*), based on mutual agreement, or a fixed
working hour system will be applied.
(*Under the discretionary labor system, employees are considered to have worked 7 hours and 45
minutes per day.)
Salary and allowances:
Compensation based on the National University Corporation Hokkaido University Salary Rules for
Faculty Subject to Annual Salary System.

(1) Besides the above job description, the successful candidate is also expected to teach
undergraduate students. In addition, the successful candidate will take the lead in applying for,
planning, and managing the international programs for the Course in Global Environmental
Management. In such cases, the ability to prepare application documents in Japanese may be
required.
