We are looking for an experienced Dairy Farm Manager to oversee and optimize the daily operations of our dairy herd. The ideal candidate will have 5–10 years of proven experience in dairy management, exhibit strong leadership capabilities, and demonstrate a commitment to animal welfare and sustainable farming practices.
Key Responsibilities
1. Whole Farm Management
Oversee all aspects of dairy herd management, including infrastructure upkeep, feed procurement, and staff coordination.
Develop and implement farm policies in line with best practices for productivity, animal health, and environmental sustainability.
Monitor farm performance and create regular reports for senior management.
2. Cow Comfort & Health
Establish and maintain protocols for disease prevention, vaccination, and overall herd health.
Collaborate with veterinarians to design and implement treatment plans, focusing on preventive care to minimize disease.
Ensure proper housing, bedding, and ventilation for optimal cow comfort and high milk yield.
3. Milking Parlor Operations
Supervise all milking activities, ensuring adherence to milk quality and hygiene standards.
Train and manage staff to operate milking equipment effectively and safely.
Implement preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.
4. Feed & Nutrition Management
Formulate and implement feeding programs tailored to herd requirements, leveraging nutritional software where appropriate.
Procure and manage feed inventory, ensuring cost-effectiveness and adherence to quality standards.
Monitor body condition, milk production, and overall herd performance to adjust rations as needed.
5. Record-Keeping & Data Analysis
Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of milk production, breeding, calving, and health treatments.
Use farm management software to analyze performance metrics, identify trends, and inform decision-making.
Submit periodic performance reports and recommendations to upper management.
6. Staff Leadership & Development
Recruit, train, and oversee a team of farm workers to ensure smooth daily operations.
Provide clear direction, set performance targets, and conduct regular evaluations.
Foster a positive work environment that emphasizes teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.
7. Budget & Resource Management
Develop and manage farm budgets, keeping track of feed costs, labor expenses, and healthcare expenditures.
Evaluate and approve procurement processes to maintain optimal supply levels at controlled costs.
Seek opportunities for operational efficiencies and gross margin improvements.
8. Compliance & Stakeholder Relations
Ensure that all dairy operations meet local regulations and industry standards.
Maintain effective communication with government bodies, veterinary authorities, and relevant stakeholders.
Address local community concerns and represent the farm in any public or regulatory forums.
9. Continuous Improvement
Identify areas for technological or procedural enhancements to boost productivity and sustainability.
Stay updated on advancements in dairy science, animal welfare, and farm management practices.
Proactively propose new initiatives to senior management for ongoing farm development.
