Job Summary :
The core job function of infection control nurses is to mitigate the risk of exposure to infections inside a hospital or healthcare facility. They devise and implement prevention-based methodologies that minimize healthcare workers’ and patients’ chances of encountering infectious agents.
Job Responsibilities:
Identifies epidemiologically important infection related issues so that appropriate plans for action can be designed including Surveillance, Outbreak Investigations, and Performance Improvement Projects.
Performs targeted surveillance of specified Healthcare Associated Infections, outbreak investigations, and ad hoc projects as defined by the Infection Control Committee
Monitors for compliance with Infection Control issues such as medical wastes, infectious disease exposures, and exposure to blood borne pathogens .
Drafts, reviews, and evaluates Infection Control policies, protocols and plan based on risk assessment.
Acts as department liaison for Infection Control other departments and personnel to reduce the risk of disease transmission in the facility.
Provides in-service training to all employees on Infection Control techniques and Policies and Procedures.
To work with the bed management team to ensure effective utilization of beds and that infectious and susceptible patients are placed inappropriate areas in order to minimize risk of infection.
