Background of Gonoshasthaya Kendra (GK) and the Project:
Gonoshasthaya Kendra (GK) is a national NGO registered as a Public Charitable Trust in 1972. GK operates with two core visions: (a) "The fate of the poor decides the fate of the country," and (b) "The development of the country depends on the development of women."
GK implements various programs and projects in partnership with UN agencies, INGOs, and other organizations, including UNDP, UNHCR, WFP, WHO, World Bank, European Union, Christian Aid, Action Aid, Save the Children, Plan Bangladesh, and Medico International, among others.
GK operates 43 health centers in 19 districts, two 250-bed hospitals, the largest kidney dialysis center in Bangladesh, a university, a Gonoshasthaya somaj victik medical college, a dental college, a Gonoshasthaya Institute of Health Sciences, a pharmaceutical industry, and a vocational training school. GK has received numerous national and international awards for its contributions to healthcare and disaster response.
As one of the largest healthcare service providers in the Rohingya response in Cox’s Bazar, GK, in partnership with Malteser International, is implementing the project "Primary Health Care, Nutrition, and Emergency Relief for Conflict and Disaster-Affected Populations in Bangladesh." This initiative aims to save lives, improve access to essential healthcare services, and strengthen crisis preparedness for Rohingya refugees and host communities, particularly for women, children, and vulnerable populations.
Main Responsibilities: The Medical Coordinator (MC) reports to the Project Coordinator and is responsible for managing and supervising Clinic Managers and technical staff in health facilities across three Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar and 5 Community Clinics in Kutubdia. The MC ensures quality implementation of project activities, liaises with relevant humanitarian agencies, and provides technical support for project execution.
The MC will maintain professional relationships with the Health Sector, SAG, ISCG, and other technical working groups, attending relevant meetings and ensuring project alignment with sectoral policies. The role requires at least 50-60% field visits to oversee healthcare services, ensure adherence to minimum health service package and standards, and support governance in health service provisions.
