  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Textile Engineering, Apparel Merchandising, or Business Administration.
Experience
  • 12 to 20 years
Additional Requirements
  • Experience: 12-20 years in merchandising for knit, woven, and sweater garments, with at least 5 years in a GM/DGM role.
  • Skills:
  • Strong leadership, negotiation, and strategic planning skills.
  • Deep knowledge of knit, woven, and sweater production processes and global apparel trends.
  • Experience in buyer negotiations, costing strategies, and supplier management.
  • Proficiency in ERP software & Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong ability to handle multiple buyers and large-scale orders.
  • Language: Fluent in English & Bengali (spoken and written).
  • Preferred: Experience working with European, US, and Asian buyers.

Reports To: Managing Director / CEO

Job Summary:

The GM/DGM – Merchandising (Knit, Woven & Sweater) is responsible for overseeing and managing the entire merchandising operations, ensuring seamless coordination between buyers, suppliers, production, and logistics teams. The role focuses on business growth, cost control, buyer relationship management, and ensuring timely delivery while maintaining high-quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Business Development & Buyer Management:
  • Develop and maintain long-term business relationships with key buyers, brands, and retailers.
  • Identify and explore new business opportunities in the knit, woven, and sweater segments.
  • Lead pricing negotiations and order confirmation discussions with international buyers.
  • Analyze market trends and implement strategies to expand the company’s merchandising portfolio.
  • Merchandising & Order Execution:
  • Oversee the entire order execution process from inquiry to shipment, ensuring on-time delivery.
  • Ensure proper planning, material sourcing, and production follow-ups to meet buyer expectations.
  • Monitor and guide the merchandising team to maintain order status updates, sample approvals, and buyer communication.
  • Solve any issues related to raw materials, production delays, or order modifications.
  • Product Development & Innovation:
  • Work with R&D and design teams to develop new styles, fabrics, and product categories in knit, woven, and sweater.
  • Ensure the development of innovative products that meet changing market demands.
  • Supervise the sampling process to ensure buyer approvals and bulk production feasibility.
  • Supplier & Production Coordination:
  • Manage relationships with key suppliers for fabric, yarn, trims, and accessories.
  • Negotiate costs with vendors to optimize profitability while ensuring high quality.
  • Work closely with production teams to monitor workflow efficiency, capacity planning, and risk management.
  • Quality & Compliance Management:
  • Ensure that all orders meet buyer-specific quality control standards and compliance requirements.
  • Work closely with Quality Assurance (QA) teams to conduct in-line and final inspections.
  • Take corrective actions for quality concerns and ensure production efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with global standards (BSCI, SEDEX, WRAP, etc.) for factory audits.
  • Financial Management & Costing:
  • Analyze and approve the costing structure for knit, woven, and sweater orders.
  • Develop strategies for cost reduction while maintaining product quality.
  • Monitor profit margins, cost efficiency, and budgeting to optimize business profitability.
  • Team Leadership & Performance Management:
  • Lead and motivate a team of merchandisers, marketing executives, and sourcing professionals.
  • Set key performance indicators (KPIs) for the merchandising department.
  • Conduct training sessions to enhance the skills and efficiency of team members.
