The Dairy Herd Manager of American Dairy Limited will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient management of farm operations, focusing on animal health, milk production, record-keeping, and the overall sustainability of the ADL breeding mother herd.
Whole Farm Management
Oversee all aspects of the breeding mother herd, including herd management, infrastructure maintenance, and staff coordination.
Develop and implement farm policies, ensuring alignment with best practices in animal welfare, environmental sustainability, and productivity.
Monitor farm performance and create periodic reports for stakeholders.
Calf Management
Establish protocols for calf care, including colostrum feeding, housing, and disease prevention.
Monitor growth and development milestones to ensure healthy replacement heifers.
Implement vaccination and deworming schedules.
Record Keeping
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of milk production, breeding, calving, health treatments, and feed inventory.
Utilize farm management software for data collection and analysis.
Prepare and submit reports to relevant authorities and stakeholders.
Milking Parlor Operations
Supervise daily milking operations to ensure milk quality and hygiene standards.
Train and monitor staff to operate milking equipment efficiently and safely.
Implement preventive maintenance schedules for milking equipment.
Cow Comfort and Health
Monitor cow behavior, body condition, and overall welfare to ensure high productivity.
Manage housing, bedding, and ventilation systems for optimal cow comfort.
Collaborate with veterinarians for health interventions, including mastitis control and lameness prevention.
Feed Management and Ration Formulation
Design and implement feeding programs tailored to herd requirements and production goals.
Procure and manage feed inventory, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness.
Formulate rations using nutritional software and ensure balanced diets for various herd categories.
Team Effort and Managerial Skills
Lead, train, and motivate farm staff to achieve operational goals efficiently.
Foster a collaborative work environment, ensuring clear communication and role delegation.
Conduct regular team meetings to discuss performance, challenges, and solutions.
Performance Evaluation
The Dairy Herd Manager’s performance will be evaluated annually based on:
